October 2015 Moms

echocardiogram/structure found by bowel/high afi levels. scared!

I feel like everything that could possibly be bad is happening.
Around 13 weeks i had my nt scan which came back on the low side of high risk. So they scheduled me for a fetal echo scan which i get the results from this week.
And i just went to the dr yesterday and apparently in my last ultrasound they found a structure near the babys bowel which is not normally there and scheduled me for another ultrasound to get a closer look especially since my afi levels have been high.
Im pretty much stressing out and really worried. Im a FTM and just want my baby boy to be healthy and strong when hes born.
I guess i just feel like all this info and testing just adds more stress to a pregnancy.
I guess this was just a vent sesh.
But if anyone has any advice or experience with all of these tests and what not.
Thank you so much ladies for any input on any of this.
Kisses to all my october mamas to be

  • I have no experience with any of this, but you and baby are in my thoughts. I pray that you get some better news this week.
  • Praying for you!
  • I don't have any experience with these areas, but please come back and let us know how it goes! You will be inmy thoughts and prayers.
  • will be praying for you , everything will turn out fine , your babyboy is healthy . God is with you
  • Do you have any updates? I had something very similar to this with my first pregnancy - high AFI levels discovered on a 26w ultrasound and they found a blockage/structure in my daughter's intestines. I had to have weekly ultrasounds to monitor my fluid levels but I carried her to full term and she is perfectly healthy now.
  • I had crazy test overload!  I was so upset for awhile but what I have now is much closer monitoring by my medical team---I have a great MFM as well as the close attention of my OB and a great genetic councilor.

So you know you are not alone in this testing fails, my NT scan came back on the high end of normal with high material serums pretty much across the board, again high maternal serums at the quad screen and then a echogenic bowel in the 20 week anatomy scan. At that point we opted for an amnio just to get a better idea of what could be going on (even though we had a good result from the cell-free DNA test which I trusted but once we got a soft physical marker beyond the NT I felt I needed more information). Our FISH and karyotype both came back good with no chromosomal issue, we also opted to go the further step and get the mircoarray done which still waiting on (over two weeks later) but we have ruled out most genetic disorders including cystic fibrosis.

The other thing I'm told we need to be aware of is intrauterine growth restriction and low birth weight --- the MFM has decided have us have a scan every 3 weeks to make sure baby boy is growing at the right pace and keep track if some sort of intervention should happen ahead of our due date (I'm 23 weeks, FTM).

I work at a large university and have access to a lot of medical research and studies which have actually helped a lot --- 80% chance everything is fine and none of this really means anything at all so more then likely everything is fine and with proper prenatal care over half the other 20% can be corrected or helped.  So while I hated each test and dreaded seeing that look on a doctors face followed by the words "let's sit down and talk" --- I'm glad they are paying the extra attention to give my baby boy the best chance he has at a healthy start to life.

I'm sorry you have to go through all this.  Hope everything is good with your baby boy.

My husband has a heart issue so we got a fetal echo with both my first and this pregnancy. It's just like a more specific ultrasound. The positive side is that there can be a proactive plan in my place if anything is found. When my husband was 2 months old my MIL found him blue. That's when they discovered his heart issue. I take comfort in the fact we can see stuff like that before baby is even born. Sending you thoughts and prayers for you and your family :)
