High-Risk Pregnancy

New GD diagnosis- have some questions

hi ladies. So I got the call yesterday that I "failed" the 3 hr GTT and was diagnosed with GD. I'm supposed to test my sugars 4x a day and see the doctor next Thursday. So far I have 1 fasting reading, which was this morning and was 74. And 4 2 hour post prandial readings which have been 93, 99, 97 and 83 respectively. I have not changed my diet as I wanted to see what my triggers were. I guess maybe I am still in denial, but I a confused by how my numbers could be what they are but I am not labeled a diabetic and high risk?? Very emotional right now as I'm sure you can all understand...just looking for support or stories from women who have gone through this.

Re: New GD diagnosis- have some questions

  • I was recently diagnosed with GD, after failing the 3 hr GTT. I have been testing my sugars 4x day, since around week 18. I took 1hr and 3 hr tests early at 16w, based on a suspicion that I might have GD-because my 18mo was 8lb 13oz at birth. I only failed one value at 16w, and recently repeated the 3 hr test at 30w. The Dietician explained that insulin needs triple during pg. My readings were low, like yours, and I've become complacent about figuring out the carbs in everything I eat. At 29-30 weeks my fasting sugars started creeping above 95, then above 100 the next week. MFM told me to watch carbs closely, or I'll likely be put on insulin. So, the dietician was correct, it really does get harder to keep your numbers in check without altering your diet as PG progresses. Had my first growth scan at 31w and they are guessing baby is 4lb6oz, which is 75% at this point in pregnancy. My goal is to keep from baby getting to 95% (which is what my 18mo was born at) and decrease odds of a C-section. I did not need one with last PG, but pushed for 4 hours-causing tearing and damage to my cervix. Good luck, GD sucks, but it's only temporary.

  • Thank you for your input and good luck to you! I'm currently 29+2. So I guess what I'm hoping at this point is to maintain for at least another 8 weeks.
