Spotting after straining to go #2

Has anyone experienced vaginal spotting after being constipated/straining to go #2? This happened to me yesterday, and of course I freaked out (especially after suffering a miscarriage last year). I am 11 days 4 days pregnant and up until this point have had no issues with spotting, and have had 2 great ultrasounds (even as recent as this past Tuesday, with a very active baby). After the spotting when I went to the bathroom, throughout the remainder of the day it was just brown (old blood), and really nothing at all today. I called my Dr., who didn't seem to be concerned and they advised taking a stool softener (Colace). Just thought I would put this out there if anyone else had experienced the same issue. I was searching on the site but everything on this subject appeared to be old threads. Luckily I have my NT scan scheduled for Monday, so hoping/praying everything is still going well.

  • Yes this happens to me.  I spot almost daily due to a polyp on my uterus and each time I have called about bleeding, they have asked me if I have strained while trying to go to the restroom.  Each time, they say to avoid straining by drinking plenty of water and also try Colace as well to soften my stools.  It's normal but nerve-racking and the same time!!

  • Thanks for your reply @candyisit---yes, it is very nerve-racking, any time I see blood I freak out. I ran out to the store and bought the Colace they recommended, and so far so good... and I am definitely making sure I continue to drink plenty of water. Wishing you a healthy pregnancy!
  • This exact thing has happened to me as well. My cervix bleeds very easily, so any type of straining causes a bleed. I have been taking colace and fiber gummies daily for ~6 weeks and I don't have to really try at all to go to the bathroom anymore (sorry if tmi). So, it has been very helpful in that regard. Staying hydrated is also helpful.

  • Just had this happen for the first time today. Definitely a little bit of a scare. This helped a bit. Thank you ladies (:
  • Colace is my best friend right now...I started taking it around 5 weeks, and then stopped at 8 because I thought I was fine...wrong! Back on it...but it makes life so much better!
