Breast Concerns

Has anyone had any abnormal things happen to their breasts? Since about 12 weeks or maybe earlier my breasts have swollen larger then the large they already are have two bilateral red patches and they are swollen so bad the follicles are looking like and orange peel. It changes daily in looks and feel. Some days the skin is hard and some days it isnt. Looked it up and Inflammatory Breast Cancer is everywhere. Im scared. Spoke about it to the resident of my OB and she said its prob hormone relatrd and she didnt think she needed to see it.

Re: Breast Concerns

  • While I'm certainly not convinced it's cancer, it does sound like it needs to be looked at. I'd talk to your regular doctor as "probably hormonal" doesn't seem like an adequate explanation to me. Something like an ultrasound could be done to help rule out possible diagnosis since a mamogram would be out of the question right now.

I'm possibly a little more hyper sensitive to this topic since breast cancer is very prevalent in my family history. I don't mess around with mine and take any concern very seriously. Get checked, girl!

  • Get it looked at. That is not a typical change, but it may be normal.
  • I agree with pp, get it checked out. It could be normal changes, but let the dr decide that. Good luck!

  • Not to scare you because it could be just hormonal but...in nursing school they drill it in to your head that an orange peel appearance is absolutely not normal. Breast cancer also is detected in pregnancy a lot because the hormonal changes accelerate the cancer. Definitely make an appointment and demand they take it seriously.
  • Thanks Ladies. See the OB in two weeks and Ill definately ask her to take a look!
  • I guess you could also say no like a orange peel. Just swollen. I have/had Bad folliculitis since a teenager on my breasts. So my pores already are very pronounced. Im very very scared to show someone. I know silly. I have just been thru alot is this pregnancy and dunno if I could bare possible bad news.
  • Ugh....so frustrated. I went to the doctors.for my follow up. Expressed to her the concerns about my breasts. The two bilateral hard patches. Explained the folliculitis in past and present. She didnt seem to concerned. Didnt ask to see but I pulled down the front of my shirt and bra so she would at least have a glimpse. She said there is alot of hormonal changes going on and with the swelling and lack of adrongens??? Right now she wasnt concerned. I joked that when I googled it all said breast cancer she said no. Barely leaned forwars though. Ughh I still am not convinced

Go to a walk in clinic if you have to!  get a second opinion if you're worried.  Geez, it's hard enough convincing women to do regular breast exams, and here you are with a  legit concern and you're barely glanced at.  Find someone who will listen to you.  Even if it turns out to be nothing (which I'm sure it is...) you need someone to acknowledge your concerns, take some time to properly examine you, and take some more of their precious time to explain to you WHY it isn't a concern.

    Good luck!
  • I had a hard spot on one of my breasts with DS. My OB looked at it, felt it and sent me to get an ultrasound. I seriously can't believe the doctor didn't even look at yours! I ultimately am fine but they sent me to get a mammogram after I finished BF.
  • What @Nukke said!! What the heck? They should definitely have looked at both of your breasts when you are having concerns like that. I agree, it's probably nothing, but you never know! I would consider a walk-in clinic and/or maybe switching doctors in general....I wouldn't want someone like that caring for me when I'm pregnant...of course you will have lots of questions while pregnant, and they should take them (and you!) seriously and take the time to consider and explain their medical opinion. I love my OBGYN and can't imagine her brushing off a concern like that. Good luck!
