Favorite parenting websites?

What blogs, sites are your go to for parenting and pregnancy advice (aside from our little world of course)?
I'm a FTM and a news junkie but I don't have any in these categories yet :-B

Re: Favorite parenting websites?

  • I like Kelly mom. And the lalecheleague there a few others but they aren't coming to mind. Mostly I just like Google in general.
  • Loading the player...
  • I enjoy the Alpha Mom blog. Her pregnancy weekly updates are hilarious. Other than that, it's new territory for me too. Interested to hear other suggestions.
  • I enjoy blogs as much as the next girl.... But Google always makes me nervous for safety and development info. But I am licensed in parent education, so I feel strongly about accurate & safe info being available! I think everyday articles are great for activity ideas & sharing common parenting experiences though. For info you want from reliable resources, try:

    www.zerotothree.org
    Center for effective Parenting
    NAEYC for families

Your state's department of education & local university extension services usually has good handouts & links - I like Ohio State, Iowa State, Wisconsin.

On the lighter side, for a website with fun activity ideas tailored to where you live, check out 'Macaroni Kid'
  • I love babble.com its a Disney site and they have the best articles !!!! Lots of interesting and useful stuff!!! They give parenting advise and couples advise and they have moms and dads stuff they have it all!!

  • Kellymom is great. Dr Jack Newmans website is also great if you're breastfeeding.

Ask Dr Sears is a good one for all the little sicknesses your child may come down with. I feel like the information is enough so that you can feel comfortable riding it out or calling your ped.
  • Thanks ladies! I've got some reading to do this weekend. I've always detested blogs (it's a stupid bias because I'm in the news business and get upset with all the free writing online) but I'm slowly coming around and looking forward to checking all these suggestions out.

I would suggest the NYTimes' The Motherlode as I can be a bit skeptical of unvetted blogs as well. I have been checking out that and then the Washington Post's On Parenting. I like that there are varied writers and that they talk about the political and larger social aspects of parenting as well.
  • I like Babygearlab and Lucie's List

    Mayo clinic for actual information.
Scarymommy.com and Huffington Post Parent for entertainment or pov.

Eta: huffpost has the "funniest tweets from parents" every week which is always worth a chuckle.
