Grooming the lady bits

Ok, this can't be happening just to me.
Is anyone else having a horrible time trying to shave the lady parts? I was doing fine until now (my 24th week.) I am basically working with no visibility down there. Considering going the waxing route. Has anyone heard if pregnant ladies should avoid waxing the bikini line?

Re: Grooming the lady bits

  • I haven't tried waxing while pregnant but I loved it before!! I shave by touch and soon SO is going to be assisting me. He's just waiting for me to ask

  • Once I realized I was going to lose a visual I ran to find a good waxing person! I used to wax regularly for 10 years and then stopped once we got pregnant. I would suggest if you are going to try it to give it a shot sooner rather than later! I've heard you get very sensitive towards the end of pregnancy but the bikini line would be doable IMO. I've gotten brazillians twice already and I find them to be no more painful than they were before getting pregnant.
  • Thanks! I have done the bikini line before so I know what I am getting myself into. Fingers crossed this works out because I can't go another 16 weeks without grooming.

  • I did my last bikini shave this week. So uncomfortable! Getting waxed from here on out!
  • Baby boy is still mostly navel and below, so I can bend over and get a good visual for the most part. It is starting to make it a little difficult to breath when I bend over that far though (yay for squished organs?), so I'm sure I'll be going by feel soon. However, I've got very long arms (proportional, not like...an orangutan or anything...i'm just tall, haha) so I HOPE I'll be able to do it myself for the duration of my pregnancy. I've never had a wax and I have very thick hair; I'm pretty sure I'd die. Okay, not really, but I'd still like to avoid it if possible.

  • You can wax but it might hurt a little worse because of all the extra blood in that area!

I hear you @aprosch -I'm waxing from here on out!! I might even start waxing my legs just to make life easier!

  • I have been waxing for almost a year and a half now. Every 2-3 weeks. Once I got pregnant I asked my doctor if it was still safe and she had no problem with me going. I have stuck to my every 2-3 weeks. I find it's a tad more uncomfortable than before just because of the sensitivity with being pregnant. But as it was stated before I would go now rather than waiting any longer if I were you!
  • Waxing is great you just bleed more..

    I have never bled?!?!? @kim1228

I'm not sure that is normal....

  • I just stopped being able to see my boys a few days ago. I'm 25 weeks tomorrow. Gonna be waxing from here on out. Kinda like that I have an excuse now to go and do that! It's expensive but worth it:)

Yeah, finally got to the point where DH has to help me. I was coaching him the whole time and he was pretty sure he was going to kill me. Not the cleanest shave ever but at least I'm a little more comfortable in this heat.
  • I highly recommend waxing. Yes, it doesn't feel good and you're more sensitive, but it helps immensely and you only need to do it once a month!

  • yea... been going by feel pretty much. i tried moving the bely to of the way and baby Ian got mad at me for it and kicked my razor lol

  • @krysta6 I'm not too worried about it--before I was pregnant I'd always bleed a bit when they pull the hair since I have sensitive skin. When I was pregnant and got waxed, it was just a bit more, since there is more blood flow there and hair is different. The woman who waxes me agreed, its not a concern and she sees it happen often. Thanks for the concern though!!
  • I'm going to wax, because I nearly shaved a lip off. TMI I know but dear god it was terrifying! I got too comfortable doing it blindly and I snagged myself!?!?! THE HORROR!!!
  • I'm naturally a fatty and shave in a mirror to make sure I get what I want. But now it's getting harder to get all of it and I'm considering trying waxing. Total newbie to that. I decided though to wax my legs too because bending over and shaving is not an option and I don't trust DH with a razor near my body.
  • I haven't waxed while pregnant yet, but I did get a bikini wax right before I got pregnant (coincidence? Hahaha) and it wasn't too bad. The woman was super professional and didn't make me feel awkward at all! I'll probably look into getting a bikini wax a week before I'm due to be in decent shape for the event. Not that baby phoned to say what day she plans on showing up lol
  • I've been shaving without being able to see since I was pregnant with DS. I just do the best I can, but lately I've been letting things go a bit.

Toward the end, even shaving my legs got challenging, but at least DS was born in May so I could still wear long pants instead if shorts!

  • Does anyone know if removal creams and such are okay? I'm pretty sure I used it before we went on vacation around 10 weeks without even thinking about it and everything was fine. Ventilation seems like it'd be the main concern but I usually just stay in the bedroom with it on until I'm ready to get in the shower so that's not a big issue. Just curious on anyone else's thoughts.
  • Sit down on the edge of your tub and shave. Otherwise shave by feeling where there is still hair.
This is my 3rd pregnancy and I've never skipped or stopped shaving with any if my pregnancies.
  • I get waxed but am DEFINITELY more sensitive now! Ouch
  • I want to do the waxing but I'm scared I will tinkle. I'm bit trying to be funny but if I cough I tinkle. Does anyone else have that issue that gets waxed and if so what advice do you have for me.
  • @fletcherj1 I pee a little if I don't brace myself for a sneeze but I haven't had a problem with waxing. It's not the same movement or feeling.

  • I can't handle waxing :/ going all natural
  • I've sugared while pregnant and it's fine. It's not hot though, like wax. With that said, I shaved down there all the way to 41.5 weeks with DS. I figure I've been doing it for decades now and can feel my way to a decent shave. It's fine if someone wants to use it as an excuse to not shave if they really don't want to, but it's completely doable to take care of business without seeing.

  • Nope 25 weeks here and zero visibility looking down, but I hate waxing so I just use a mirror I have one with suction cups it just attaches to the bathtub wall. I figure guys can shave their face using a mirror I can figure this out! It was a little hard to get down at the beginning, now it's easy!!
  • Iv given up. I can't see. And I have a lil mole down there that I am scared to death of shaving off!
  • Omg I LOVE this post!!! It is so hard to shave the lady bits now. I went 2 weeks without shaving just because I was dreading it so much (this coming from a woman that shaved that area on the reg atleast every 3 days). I don't want to wax because I've never done it before and 25 weeks into pregnancy probably isn't the best time to start due to sensitivity. For now I am using the "blindly feeling trying not to cut something off technique". Lol I wish all you ladies luck in your pregnant grooming endeavors!!!!
