This is my second pregnancy. I have a healthy, beautiful son. I ate healthy but normal with him.
This pregnancy I've been following the rules for the most part, but I've been getting sick of the don'ts in eating..
I just read that eating peanutbutter or peanuts more than twice a week can in turn make baby allergic to them...
WHAT?
Nuts are healthy and have always been on the safe side. Now I go and read on this bump site that it's now potentially bad if I don't limit myself?
I eat healthy, and I'm starting to just eat what I want. I had a hotdog today. I eat lunch meats. (I make sure they're cooked). I have coffee in the morning and maybe a glass of soda at dinner. I drink enough water to last me a week. I'm gonna continue to eat my apples and peanut butter. I snack on cashews, macadamia nuts, and sunflower seeds.
I am just so fed up with all the "do this, don't do that", when it comes to eating..
They didn't have half of these studies or warnings when my grandmother was pregnant for my mother.
Sorry about the rant, it's been a long week already and hormones are raging tonight..
Re: Getting sick of the "don't eat this. Don't eat that"
I still eat sandwich meats also, have had fish (limited I will say though, and other things I 'shouldn't' be eating)
Now, I wouldn't be going out eating raw cookies or anything, but I think it's all in moderation and using your own judgment.
That's interesting, my OBGYN told me that since my last child the rules on seafood have changed. Your allowed to eat more.

He obviously said don't over do it and stay healthy, don't smoke and all, but I kind of agree with him..
My mum had prawns, mayonnaise, hot dogs and so on when she was pregnant with me and I'm fine!

I'm now 21 weeks. I've eaten sushi a few times, I've had goats cheese, I've eaten cold deli meat, runny yolk eggs and I have almond butter every morning in my smoothie.
I'm fine, my baby is fine and developing well. I was told by my midwife to eat peanuts, because avoiding them can cause intolerance in the baby. All other nuts and nut butters are totally fine btw.
Had peanut butter every other day when I was pregnant with DS. I even gave him peanut butter at probably 7-8 months old. The rules with feeding baby now are, there are no rules other than honey and milk after 1 (unless family history of allergies).
As for the nut-free school, administration has to do their best to protect all children. Even if protecting one means limiting the others. Can you imagine if it were your child that was deathly allergic to peanuts or any nut? Kids with peanut allergies are sometimes also allergic to tree nuts (some research says up to 40%) regardless of whether or not it is a nut or legume. Furthermore, from an administrative point of view, it is a lot easier to regulate the whole situation by saying no nuts whatsoever (including peanuts). I would hate to be the person responsible for sending a child into an anaphylactic reaction!
The only thing I avoid is alcohol. Everything else I just use common sense.
There's another 3 page thread about this at the bottom of page 2 called "I'm so bad". You'll find a lot of us don't follow all the "rules".
I eat everything. Sushi, lunch meat, runny yolks. All of it. You're more likely to get sick from produce. I even drink wine 2-3x a week in the last tri. Studies have shown kids of moms who drink lightly are actually smarter and more socially adjusted.

I eat chips when I want chips and a banana when I want one of those. I eat spicy when I crave spicy and lemons if I was something sour. I drink coke because it calms my tummy from the horrible nausea I tend to keep all pregnancy. I eat what I want when I want it and go from there.
