It's a very personal question and I'm so embarrassed to ask this question but i can't ask anyone else and I'm a FTM..I'm 10 weeks pregnant and have been having constipation issues since i got pregnant.. today i noticed slight blood from my rectum on the tissue. . Is it something to worry about? Should i go to the doc right away?

I had that before and I called my doctor and she assured me that it was just from straining too hard! I had it happen before when I wasn't pregnant so that helped assure me as well. It really scared me though!

I've noticed it too on occasion. I think it's just from the straining and it can sometimes cause a small tear, called a fissure. It can keep happening if the tear doesn't heal between bathroom visits. My doctor told me to make sure I was drinking enough water and eat plenty of fruits and veggies.

  • It's probably a hemorrhoid from all the pushing. You can ask the dr for some
meds for the constipation or try natural alternatives...like prune juice. With my son I got very constipated from the Zofran... I drank a cup of coffee (which I didn't drink otherwise while pregnant) and I was able to go. I know friends who needed depositories.

Sorry! But don't worry, it's very common.
  • If the blood is bright red it's just a fissure. If it is a deeper, darker color it's more concerning. I'm sure it's no biggie, particularly since you've been constipated.
  • Yep, that's happened to me. I was super constipated for the first few weeks of this pregnancy. I switched to a prenatal that also contains a probiotic and its helped keep my poop regular and I've also increased my water intake by a ton. You may just have to try different things until you find something that works for you.

This. Has been happening to me too. Constipation is oddly enough the first symptom that I get when I'm pregnant. That's what gave me the clue to test. No need to be embarrassed, this is what internet strangers (who can also be extremely helpful) are for!!
  • I have had a sensitive *area* as long as I can remember and am prone to fissures. To remedy, I drink loads of water and avoid heavy meat intake. If it is safe, stool softener a are a life saver!
    Good luck!
  • I frequently have blood from there and in my stools - all bright reddish colored. Started happening about a year ago. Was so freaked out I went to a gastro- he wasn't concerned, but after 3 return visits, he let me get a colonoscopy (history of polyps in my family). All was fine - just hemroids which I have been still getting while preg. Tell your doctor but I don't think you should worry.
  • Thank you ladies. . I feel so relieved!! :)
  • Had this same thing and the doc just told me to get that fiber powder and drink it three times a day throughout the first trimester.
  • Totally normal. This happens to me not pregnant sometimes. And this is just the beginning and pretty tame "embarrassing" thing thing that will happen to your body while pregnant. Just wait til labor! :)

  • I've had this on and off for years. Sometimes if it's a bad one you'll actually drip blood into the toilet and that's pretty scary but it's all the same. You ripped your butt a little lol. Take a stool softener for a few days and let it heal, try not to push and rush your poops. It helps to be in as close to a squatting position as possible so you don't have to strain. I actually bought one of those foot rest things to bring my legs up higher. It's great. Americans poop all wrong lol.
  • Haha I'm so constipated! I've been eating some dried prunes and apricots every day and if I bleed, I won't be too alarmed. I've had haemorrhoids before and if you take care of them and make sure you're eating plenty of fibre and fruit and drinking water, you should heal up soon. Might not completely cure it but it can help.
