Using the search function

First of all let me say that I am not trying to be rude or make anyone feel bad for posting a new thread on this board. At all. But I think with so many people on here, it would be really helpful if everyone used the search bar before posting to ask a question.

For example, I see posts about spotting over and over. I totally get it- I had spotting and bleeding with my first pregnancy and it was really scary. But if you search spotting on the Feb16 board, you'll get all kinds of answers and advice.

If you need support, that's different. Then post away and ask for support. I'm sure you'll get a ton. Everyone around here seems cool.

I'd love to utilize the search option but it seemingly won't work using the app (it keeps closing out even after being updated) or on the website using my phone. I just scroll through and if I don't see anything I just don't talk about it. Hoping my app starts working normal soon.

Could we do a pinned post about how to use the search bar? Jan16 board has one and I think it's a great idea. The board starts to get super crowded with almost identical posts and I don't believe a lot of women are getting the answers they need because responding to every single 'having stomach pains' post is hard and not very time efficient.

I'm fine for the SS posts about something scary (as these will decline as we get further along). For me, it's all of the duplicate posts about when you're telling or just general symptoms that are driving me crazy. I try to redirect to an older post when appropriate

I've been waiting for this post. However, similar posts did not go over so well on the last two birth month boards. I hope we can all be adults about it and not turn this into an argument. If you would like to see a disaster just go check out Dec and Jan, and let's not let that happen here.

I appreciate this post, and I hope it's taken seriously. It only takes a second to do a search and it helps keep the group organized. Plus it's part of the bump guidelines.

I think if we're nice about redirecting people to existing threads and mentioning that there are already 10 threads, it shouldn't be a big deal.

TB isn't for everyone and if people prefer the post whatever you want when you want atmosphere, BabyCenter is probably a better place for them.

We really should have a "New here?" thread pinned that has this along with things like a link to the glossary, a list of weekly posts, why you should intro and stuff like that.

On my old board, we also had a blog that listed due dates and teams and other things that were easier to read than some big long post on here. Might be worth doing after first tri (I'd post at link, but they unpinned all of our pinned posts when TB went nutzo).

FFFC and Fur Baby Friday

There's already a google doc post within that post for due dates/teams.

I'm all about having some organization and cutting down on multiple threads (it's getting annoying for sure), I just don't like when there's this gang of regs that come into every thread yelling, "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTIONNNNN!!!" and they're really rude about it. I've seen it on past BMBs and It gets so annoying.

Oh yeah, for sure. I haven't seen anything rude here. Other BMBs that I sometimes stalk for no reason end up having like five or more people saying the same thing, in a really condescending way. Drives me crazy.

I totally know what you mean. I only get mean and snarky when it's totally deserved (i.e. I've tried to be nice and they go crazy).

I agree.  This is why I wrote the post in the nicest way I possibly could.  I don't want anyone to feel dumb for not knowing exactly how the board works.  And a bunch of people being rude feels just like the middle school where I spend a whole lot of time.  I do think we should get some structure though.  This is a huge board right now (500 intros) and the multiple posts end up burying the other ones.  Youknowwhatimsaying?

I really like this board and have only seen a handful of rude comments out of hundreds. That's a pretty good track record

I get your frustration, but those of us using the app on a smart phone don't have a search option.

You do. I am perma mobile on my iPhone. It is at the bottom of the main Feb16 page. Also you can search a specific discussion at the bottom of an open thread. I will screen shot it for you.

I'm on the app on my IPhone right now. The search function is at the bottom of the page under all of the threads, just below the boxes you would use to navigate between the pages.
