How do you control your nerves?

i am a first time mom and after 7 weeks of waiting in between appointments, I finally have my anatomy scan tomorrow! I'm really excited to see peanut but I'm also nervous. I don't know why. I haven't had any indications anything is wrong. No major cramping, no bleeding, but I also don't feel like I'm showing. I think I feel movements but it's not very strong so I'm not sure. Ugh, all these crazy feelings are driving me crazy! How do you ease your mind that everything is ok?

Re: How do you control your nerves?

  • First off I would like to say what your feeling is completely normal. I am the same way I was nervous for every test and scan. What I did to calm myself was to call my mom. She has a way of assuring me that everything is ok. But when I couldn't talk to her like late at night when no one is awake. I pray. I talk to God. I feel so much better after. Lastly, I play some games on my phone to take my mind if the anxiety. If your feeling movement that's a very good sign. As far as not showing too much, don't worry YOU WILL lol. Every woman is different. Hang in there love. Anxiety just takes away from the positives of being pregnant. Look up nursery themes and start your registry !! Do fun things to prepare for your little miracle. Good luck to you!

  • I just remind myself of what you said. You have no reason to worry other than the sneaky "what if" monster. You've done everything in your power to ensure LO is healthy and growing, and that's the best reassurance you can get up until you see him/her in there. Enjoy!

  • This board has actually helped me calm a lot of those nerves. I have my anatomy scan in two weeks and while I'm nervous about it, reading about everyone else's experiences has helped me to feel more prepared.

I also read before I go to bed. Sometimes, if I'm feeling particularly anxious because LO hasn't moved much, I'll start reading aloud. Or talk with my husband. LO actually has started to respond a little bit to our voices, but I only notice it if I'm still for while. If nothing else, it gets my mind off of worrying. ;)

I hope your scan goes well!
  • I'm finding the less stressful approach for me is to assume that everything is great with baby until I'm told otherwise (or have significant symptoms to cause concern). Chances are everything is great, and if I have no real reason to worry, then all I'm doing is hurting my baby with the stress which is counterproductive.

Of course this is easier said then done!
  • Scan went great other than baby didn't want to show the naughty bits very willingly. But we did get to see its a boy!!!
