Going #2...

anyone have trouble with diarrhea? I'm expecting our 3rd and so far have experienced more constipation and diarrhea than my other two combined! Sorry this is so tmi, but yesterday and today the consistency of the diarrhea is mucous-y. Ew!!! And I feel terrible!!! Not sure if it's a bug or just first trimester annoyance. I was really hungry this morning so I ate, but now I'm regretting it

Re: Going #2...

  • I would bring it up to your OB. it could be something in your diet or lacking in your diet. I know that's not healthy number 2 consistency. Diarrhea is expected but not mucous like. :) Sorry you're having tummy trouble. Hopefully, with the second tri right around the corner, all of our bellies will feel a little better.

  • This has happened to me if I eat food with too high of a fat content. DH and I went to a great steak place in NY two weeks ago and my tummy could not handle the bone in filet! Off to the bathroom I went before we even finished dinner! Try really paying attention to what you are eating and see if something is setting it off.
  • Thank you! Will do :)
  • Happened to me after I are refried beans - something I never eat but was craving ---- never again.
  • This is so me! It's diarrhea or constipation, there is no in between. I'm sure it has a lot to do with my diet, but at this point, I basically eat what I can. I have so many food aversions this time around. I'm hoping once this passes I can get into a better diet.

This is my 3rd as well and am having crazy stomach issues that I never had before. Hope it doesn't stick around all 40 weeks!

  • I have been major constipated, I have to use pessaries to help me poop, and when I do its mucasy!

I think the mucas comes from the constipation side of the problem, the longer you go without poop the more mucasy it can get when it does come out! That's my understanding anyway! But yes talk to doctor! Xx
  • @HoneyBee2813 Ditto, exactly the same. First I'm constipated, then when I finally do poop it's a couple hard poops and then diarrhea. I'm sure it's largely related to my HORRIBLE diet right now, but I've just been eating whatever I can stomach, which is unhealthy food...otherwise I wouldn't be able to eat anything and that would be even worse! I'm hoping all of it remedies itself in a few weeks as the 2nd trimester magically makes my appetite come back, haha.

Sounds like IBS - I used to suffer from IBS as a teenager but now in my 30s I'm pretty symptom free thank goodness. However, with all my pregnancies the symptoms return, diarrhea, constipation, little warning needing the loo, cramps and yes mucus! Disgusting but I think it's the bowels way of cleaning themselves! Eww. Anyway it's all totally normal and down to flipping pregnancy hormones again. Go and get it checked out anyway to be sure but I'm pretty certain that's what's going on. Avoid bread and starchy things as they make it a whole lot worse. Good luck xxx
  • I agree with PP.
I have IBS and my poo is mucusy... Not all the time but some of the time- especially when I'm constipated.
Talk with your doctor about it.
    Happy pooping ;)

I have UC, an IBS disease, that was diagnosed after my girls were born. I was sick the last 4 or so months of my pregnancy and didn't know what it was. Started with mucus and eventually had blood and pain. If your symptoms get worse definitely see a doctor for treatment.

Hopefully it's just your diet and it gets better soon. :)

I started having really bad diarrhea and started vomiting at 11 weeks after no puking before that. It could be a stomach bug, if nothing in your diet has really changed like mine. I would call the doc, and if it doesn't get better in a few days they'll prolly have you go in.
  • I was so happy to finally poop today (it had been a week) and afterwards I had a terrible burning sensation :/
  • @kylelee23 It was probably just because a week's worth of poop just came out, likely dry and with much effort I would assume, so I wouldn't be surprised if you scraped or tore something while pushing (similar to childbirth! haha, seriously though, sometimes when I have trouble going #2 I wonder how much harder it will be to push out a full-size baby, oy!). I wouldn't be concerned unless it happens again during a normal bowel movement.

  • Exact same things happening here! Two things doc suggested were using a footstool under your feet when on the toilet to get yourself more in a squatting position to relieve pressure on your bowels, and drink a small amount of warm prune juice at night to help keep things moving. I personally can't stomach the prune juice so I use Metamucil but the squatting thing has really made a huge difference.
  • @CaraBoonie Yes! It definitely required a lot of effort on my end. Thank you for the input :) I did call my Dr. to confirm that it was normal and she assured me it was (being constipated and all). She recommended more fiber and water. Seriously though, if I drink any more water I'll become water. And you make a good point about pushing a baby! All worth it in the end :)
