Cough suppressants

Hi ladies, I'm 22wks and have a horrible cough at night. I've tried zaxby's, hot water with honey and lemon, salt water rinses and non-menthol cough drops but nothing is helping. I went to the clinic today and they told me all cough medicines are class c, which could pose a risk to the baby. But the nurse advice line said they were ok at this point, I'm torn about taking them. Any personal experience/wisdom?

Re: Cough suppressants

  • I have hypertension and had a pretty bad cough around 16-20 wks. The only issue they were concerned about was how the cough suppressant would affect my BP, not the baby. I was told my my nurse and OB that Robitussin is ok as long as it's not the "Robitussin D" that is kept behind the pharmacy counter. Also, halls cough drops were fine as well. In the mornings I would either drink pregnancy safe hot tea or hot water with lemon and honey. Cough is now gone! (Thank the lord! ) and baby is still fine! Hope this helps.
