Super dry skin!

I have never really had a problem with dry skin until about 3 weeks ago and it's bothering me so bad!! I'm dry and flaky! I have tried a few lotions for regular and extra dry skin, now I'm to the point of using a mix of baby oil & coconut oil because it is the only thing that seems to keep my skin semi moisturized.

Any ladies have any suggestions of lotion brands or what your using to stay moisturized?

Re: Super dry skin!

  • I use Heel Rescue on my feet. Probably 3-4 times a day. Gold bond lotion everywhere else. My feet are the worst though and it helps. You can get it at CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, or Target by the foot creams.

  • I'm a fan of coconut oil for moisturizing! I just ordered some more (along with some vitamin E to add to it) bc it's wonderful. I was using baby oil prior and it worked okay, but the coconut oil seems to absorb a little better and (supposedly) has more benefits, especially coupled with Vit E! Good luck!

  • I like coconut oil as well. My skin was terrible in the beginning but I started using Mambino Organics Moisture Me Toning Oil EVERYDAY after I shower and it has worked MIRACLES on my skin!!! I order it on amazon for about $14 and it lasts me about a month and a half.

I also used Palmer's cocoa butter before bed, especially on my belly.

  • I use 1% hydrocortisone for my echezma ! Coconut oil and vitamin e wasn't working for me !

If it's eczema, I just recently started using Aveeno Eczema cream and it was the best decision ever. Mine was starting to bleed it was so dry and cracked and so unbelievably itchy. It's the only things that's worked so far.
If it's body in general, I use the Aveeno body lotion and love it. I also switched to, again, Aveeno Skin Relief body wash and it's left my skin so much softer and not needing a ton of lotion. I had a major rash across my tummy before switching and it instantly cleared up and left my skin feeling so much more hydrated.

@McRad Hi, just wondering if you are in America or the UK? Whilst in America a couple of months ago I bought the aveeno eczema cream and it was amazing! Now it's all gone :( and I can't find it anywhere in the UK, just the standard aveeno cream which isn't working on my eczema patches but does make my skin really soft everywhere else! Please tell me you're in the UK and know where to get it!!

@kacichch awe! I wish I could but I'm in the states. May be a dumb question but can you order products online and have them shipped internationally? I found the cream at Target and wonder if you can order it there and ship it across the pond? I don't know if Amazon does it either or if there's a UK version that would carry it? It's is uh-maxing and is like magic on those stubborn patches.
  • My back is so dry and flaky I wish I could just roll around in lotion for hours and it itches like crazy. I will try some of these suggestions.
  • @McRad I regret not buying a ten years supply now! I had no idea how incredible it would be. My dr is keeping me well stocked on standard aveeno and I asked him about the one specifically for eczema and he said he hadn't heard of it. You lucky Americans!! The only plus side is i'm getting all of my massive bottles for free from the Dr! I will check out those websites and have a look thank you. I 100% recommend to anyone going through this too to buy the Aveeno eczema cream if it's available where you are. It is a god send really really helped me through this itchy horrible nightmare!
  • @McRad just had a look and it will cost £40 for one 500ml bottle. That's about $60!! I think it cost me $5 for a bottle in Cv's!! 100% can't get it in the UK just checked the aveeno .co.uk website and that's got no mention of it but the .com one does :( can someone fly me over some aveeno and some lucky charms please :)
  • Tallow balm will change your life. I started using it two weeks ago. My skin feels and looks amazing!!!! And a little goes such a long way. I've always had what I call alligator scales on my lower legs from shaving. Where the skin is dry and scaly. Had it for yrs. Nothing, not even coconut oil would change that. Used the tallow for less than a week and it's smooth perfect skin!. Not to mention how soft my skin feels now. Someone told me yesterday I was glowing and I laughed because two weeks ago I had red, dry in spots, oily in others, irritated acne prone skin. So amazed at the change and how fast it changed!!

Have you tried the Gold Bond Ultimate eczema relief cream? It's the only thing that works on my DH and DD. DD used to use the Aveeno eczema cream but it stopped working.
  • Three pack on Amazon.co.uk
  • @knottymomma no I haven't ever heard of it before, I have taken a screen shot of that and will look into it :) thank you for your recommendation fingers crossed it works for me too!
  • I use Aveeno for Ezema. It is a little expensive but works well on dry flakes skin which I also have.
  • Love coconut oil! :) Also, I bought Nivea's in-shower lotion thinking I wouldn't like it, but it helps! It's great for the humidity where I live because it has the just-lotioned softness, but without the "sticky" lotion feeling.
  • No problem!
  • My skin has become drier but I've actually love it because pre-pregnancy was dealing with oily skin and breakouts and now the drying up of my skin has made it more tolerable especially with it being summer and thus fewer break outs! Yay! I use pure coconut oil on my belly and that helps moisturize my skin or cliniques face lotion is heavy on moisture but can be greasy if your skin isn't naturally dry
  • @BrooklynBroussard Vaseline is my go to ! I love my coconut oil but it doesn't nothing for my echezma :( ! I have to use my hydrocortisone or it flares up bad ! My skin is super sensitive to anything with soap in it. I have to buy body wash soap free ! It's crazy !
  • I use 1% hydrocortisone for my echezma ! Coconut oil and vitamin e wasn't working for me !
Oh no! I didn't even think about eczema! I don't have an experience with that, but I hate it for y'all who have :(

  • Yes to coconut oil. I use a blend that also has saffron and marigold oils in a roller, and I lurve it.

One thing that really dries out skin is a long shower with lots of hot water. So if you love your long showers, watch how warm your skin gets. If you're pink, it's stripping your skin of natural oils. When I worked in derm, we always recommend keeping them short 'n sweet, applying your moisturizer/oil/Vaseline on, wet skin, and avoid strong soaps.

    It helps prevent this
