Let me know if you think doc is accurate!!

I had my genetic screening today. First and foremost my concern was that the baby was healthy and doing well. Once I found that out (yay sigh of relief) I asked if the doc had any guesses. Well he gave me one with "80% accuracy". He said he looks at the angle of the "nub". I'm pretty sure I agree with him but.... You see boy??

Re: Let me know if you think doc is accurate!!

  • With this nub theory, usually the girls nub goes along with the body, and the boys nub is more up in the air..,
With that being said, from the looks of your ultrasound, to me, in my own opinion, I would agree with the doc and say a boy. But I'm no doctor so don't quote me on that.

  • Just out of curiosity, how many weeks are you? I did the NT scan last week (11+3) and the tech said the nub was too small to confirm it was a boy, but it definitely didn't look like the 3-line thing you see on a girl. I've been looking over all of the pics she printed out for me and the baby isn't positioned well in any of them to see its business! It's so hard to wait!
I think that yours looks like a boy too! Congratulations either way, high five for healthy babies!
  • Just looking overall, my first impression is boy. Congrats on a healthy baby either way!
  • Thanks ladies! @arose3eb 11w5d but baby measured 12w0d. Sometimes baby doesn't want to cooperate and some people say you can't tell yet, but my doc said pretty quickly what he thought and said 8/10 times he gets it right
  • I definitely wouldn't take the doctor's guess as accurate, based on my own past experience. With my first baby I was told it was a boy at 16 weeks on a 3D ultrasound. I totally saw what looked like a penis. It seemed obvious. At 22 weeks we had another ultrasound and it was clearly a girl. I'm just saying its' way, way too early to tell the sex on ultrasound, so I wouldn't believe the doctor right now, even if he said he's 80% sure.

Agreed. I had a US for my DD at 14 weeks and I was told boy when I asked them to take a guess. It was clear at the 20 week scan that it was a girl. Just saying I wouldn't go out and buy clothes.
  • Ya I almost wish I didn't ask because now I'm like, well I feel like it is a boy, but is it really? Hmmm. I'll pretend I didn't hear it and wait til the anatomy scan.

I wouldn't trust a guess at this point. The following link shows how boys and girls look practically identical at 11 weeks and don't finish differentiating for several weeks. It won't be long until you (hopefully!) can find out for sure.
