I'm from Canada and every single doctor I ask about this, claims they've never heard of it. I'm getting frustrated. I did all the regular bloodwork to detect down syndrome, trisomy 13 and Open tube neuronal problems.... And I have done this for every single pregnancy, but I have never been told what the gender of my child is. Apparently here you have to wait for your 20 week ultrasound for a gender answer, and even then it is mandatory for them to tell you at the end of your appointment that it is still a 50-50 chance, they cannot give you a direct answer. So frustrating! but I guess we'll just wait and see how things turn out for the 20 week ultrasound in August.
@teaformeplease and @angela1m congratulations! Can you two give some insight into how you got the Progenity test? Did you OB offer it? Are you high risk? Was it covered by insurance?
So exciting! My doctor does the testing standard and I'm SO excited to find out (I have 2.5 weeks until the test since I'm only in my 8th week).
For mine, since I know people are asking about cost, I asked specifically what it costs since I know some people are slapped with huge bills and my office said they have a deal with the lab where the lab asks insurance for the money and then bargain down and essentially accept whatever your insurance is willing to give. They said they only had one case ever where the patient got a bill for it and they personally called the lab/insurance on behalf of the patient and got it resolved for them. I made sure to ask several times and was promised it wouldn't cost me a cent, as I said I had no interest if it would cost me since we're young and low risk.
We did this test as well, but won't have the results back for a week or so. The OB offered it, but we are not high risk. She offers it to all of her patients. We were told that we will pay based on income. The total cost is between $75-200.
We did it electively, I am 33 hubs is 40 but I am a nurse and was hanging a lot of chemo and transplant meds prior to finding out I was pregnant so I was a little worried about exposure and issues. Had the test drawn last Monday, got results yesterday (Monday) so took 5 business days.
I also spoke with the financial services at Progenity and she said they attempt to bill insurance regardless of age, and appeal twice if its denied. The max patient out of pocket cost is $99 whether insurance pays anything or not.
@xxarlannaxx I am in Canada too and was told about NIPT as an option of first trimester screening where you can find out the sex at 11/12 weeks. It was about $650 so we have chosen not to do it and just wait until 20 weeks.
I am having my test done tomorrow! It will be so nice to know so conclusively that the baby is healthy and to find out the sex so early! I am eagerly awaiting hearing the exact price tomorrow, but my doctor said it would be around $200. He didn't even offer me a different screening option, and I am low risk and under 35. I think this is the direction that things will be going in routinely for everyone in the not too distant future.

Yea I'm definitely not about to pay that much just to find out the gender a few weeks early. I'll wait till I'm 20 weeks. I can use that $650 to buy our baby things it will really need.
I got the M21 drawn yesterday and I'm so hoping for low risk of issues! I think that the best thing about cell free DNA testing is that you have definitive answers about serious issues early on. The sex of the baby is just part of the genetics but I guess it's a bonus to most people.
