Crib overload!

So DH and I went crib shopping.  Something that  I thought would be quite simple really has not been. (FTM obviously) Let me first say that I don't like black.white, gray, espresso, or brown.  I really just want a nice medium tone wood crib.  The problem is that there are very few that I am finding that are either very dark or white.  Second, all of the cribs look essentially the same to me yet are crazy different prices for who knows what reason.  I don't want to spend a ton, and love to look for bargains.  Anyone have any tips on where they found their crib?  What brand they went with and why?  Or really any crib buying tips at all, I'm feeling quite lost.

Re: Crib overload!

  • Jenny Lind is really popular and affordable, it's what I went with for my toddler bed. Not sure about wood colors, but it comes in yellow, pink, lagoon etc if you decided to go the colorful route, and with 20% off at buy buy baby, it's only $160. For her crib, I did a Bratt Decor wrought iron canopy in ivory. They have tons of beautiful cribs. That was quite a bit more, but I've gotten tons of compliments on that crib. Hope that helps!

  • My MIL bought our crib so she told me not to worry about that price. But I picked out a 4 in 1 convertible crib from babies r us. It changes from a crib to toddler bed, to day bed, to full size bed. Mine was $500 cause the mil wanted to make sure it was made good to last a long time but there are some 4 in 1 cribs that are only like $199 or so. When it came to picking out the style of the bed, I narrowed it down to the color bed I wanted first. Then I picked the one I thought would match best with the dresser I already have for the nursery.
  • Search online. I was interested in a grayish color one but opted for espresso color because it's a little easier to decorate with once our son is older and decides on his room decor. Buy buy baby has one that's a neutral wood color.
  • Kohls online has a lot and if you buy when you have a 20-30% off coupon can get great deal. I got Storkcraft in white and a matching dresser but lots of options. Wayfair.com is also awesome and have bought a lot of furniture through there. Best part is free shipping. And their website is really easy to use and drill down on features to exactly what you want. Lots of options. Would definitely look online since you want a specific color, easier to find and more options. Would recommend a convertible as well especially if u get a matching dresser bc then can use until they are out of the house!
  • Are you thinking something along this color?

That's gorgeous, and a great price.

I would also suggest ikea. They have medium tone woods for $100ish

Honestly, a medium wood is going to be tough to find. Definitely shop online. I highly doubt you'll find any in the stores.

  • What about an iron crib? They're different and usually pretty affordable. I also like how classic they look!
Just another idea if you can't find the right wood color you want.
  • I have been going crazy too! I'm having a hard time finding a nontoxic finish on a crib not made in china for under 850. Ikea makes one unfinished crib for like 80 bucks, but I hate it and some ikea cribs are made in china qnd some other parts of asia. I think I'll go with a painted crib to avoid lacquer, but I can't decide on brand. I'll take whatever style I get once I decide on a brand. I just don't trust China to keep baby safe.

My husband and I had the same problem! We finally found ours at Target(obviously not real wood), but it looks nice and could be used for our future children.
  • We went with an Ikea crib. Check them out. They're affordable and many convert to a toddler bed.

  • Check wayfair.com or even amazon. Crib selection online is infinitely better than in stores, and the bigger sites offer free shipping/free returns. I've seen a lot of medium wood toned cribs in my browsing...
  • We got ours off wayfair.com! We got a Storkcraft Portfino crib or something like that. If I close out my app to go look at the actual name it will tell me when I come back that the page is not found and won't let me post.

The crib is a crib and changing table combo. It is also a convertible. It comes with the toddler rails. We got it in Cherry. I think when taxes and everything were said and done it came to about $340. It also has a lot of good reviews on their website. Shipping is free! It should be arriving this week!
  • @LLynde5 yes that is about the right color, also I've seen Cognac and liked that.

I will probably end up buying online but I worry that it will look great in the picture and then I will hate it in person. I'm probably just way overthinking things but thanks for all the suggestions!

Some stores will have a display in the store and you can order it in a different color. That way you can see it in person before you buy it. Or at least find a brand that you like by looking at displays and search that brand online to find the bed you want. Just a thought :) I bought my crib from the store because I wanted to see what it looked like first cause I didn't want to order something and it come in looking really cheap.

@LaurenBee24 look for a Greenguard Certified cribs. I was adamant about getting a non-toxic crib as well. Ours was YoungAmerica (made in USA) and Greenguard Certified, but they are out of business now because they couldn't compete with the imported stuff price wise. You can still find used YoungAmerica cribs on Craigslist and they are basically the safest you can get.
  • @twogirlsandagreen the low offput requirements for greenguard certification don't do much to make me feel comfortable. Also, I feel like some good options might be out there from small companies that can't spend $30,000.00 plus for certification. I don't think that the Greenguard alone is enough.... or I'd just get the baby appleseed crib.... I'm just so overwhelmed.
