Dizzy spell!!

I was sitting down talking to a friend and suddenly I felt like a brain zap followed by the room spinning. It's hard to explain but it was much like when a TV zaps. The whole thing lasted less than 5 seconds I would guess. Anyone ever experience this?? Now I'm scared to even drive!

Re: Dizzy spell!!

  • I'd call your obgyn just to be safe.

  • Can't hurt to call your obgyn/midwife.  I have had this my whole 2nd trimester.  My blood pressure is really low (which is common in the 2nd tri), and that has caused my dizziness.

  • Same here @double2rouble . My bp is really low. I've been having dizzy spells and passing out on a regular basis. Seeing a cardiologist just to be on sagssafe side. ..
  • Thank you all! I will definitely let my doctor know. My husband suggested that maybe my blood pressure was low but I didn't realize that could cause a dizzy spell.

I get dizzy spells quite often. We believe it is because baby rests on my back so I'm not getting the best circulation. Ive been close to blacking out a few times. When I lay in my side or on all fours the pressure decreases and it gets better. Might be worth trying a few different things to see if any give relief so you have info to give your doctor.

  • I get the dizzy spells all the time, but it's from high blood pressure. I would talk to your OB/ midwife and let them know ASAP. Give them as much info as possible about what you were doing before it happened, how long the spell lasts, and any other feelings you have (dry mouth, stomach cramps, nausea, swelling). All of this information will be useful in treating you.
  • @knottymomma Thank you, will do!

This. I don't know about the zap that you experienced and I would ask your OB about that aspect, but dizzy spells are quite common in pregnancy (it's always something, ha!). I read that sleeping on your left side is often the best solution due to blood flow. If you don't have a BP issue and are hydrated/have eaten enough, it might be a good idea to try to sleep exclusively (or at least mainly) on your left side! Good luck :)

  • @adcoxmt Thanks for the advice! My BP has been normal and I drink a lot of water but I do have gestational diabetes. I eat throughout the day but I suppose that could have also been a cause. I'll definitely be sleeping on my left side. Thanks!
