Parenting after 35

Father's Day Project.

have any of you seen the project floating around on FB where you make kids footsteps in the sand? Oh my. I don't know what possessed me to attempt this with a 2 yr old, 6 yr old, and a newborn. Epic fail. I dealt with three kids in Joann fabrics to get supplies. Then had to go all the way back because they didn't give me my plaster of Paris! Spent THREE hours in the garage trying to get their prints right. Little guy did well. He's 2 weeks old. He slept through most of it in his carrier.

So I mixed my plaster way too thick. It ruined the whole thing!

Plan B. Plan C. This is what I ended up doing. Still kind of a pain with three kids but daddy liked it. I made two actually because I never did anything for my mom for Mother's Day.

Re: Father's Day Project.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who failed Fathers Day this year! I wanted to make a handprint and frame it with a picture. I followed a recipe I saw on Pinterest and it turned out horrible- it actually fused to the pan when I baked it! Ugh!!!

Your plan c turned out nice. I didn't have time to make anything else so I bought my h some snacks and candy that he likes. Lame.

  • @Guennie was it the salt dough stuff?? I did ornaments a couple years ago at Christmas time. I had trouble too. Mine took forever and ever to dry.

I was soooo frustrated. DH is a freak about his garage too. I had bought play sand for the project and I made mini sandboxes for the kids to play so they wouldn't mess with the sand for the frames. I put them in the grass by the garage and Laid an old table cloth out before I did started. DH got all irritated about sand that the kids got on the floor in the garage. I was so mad after spending $60 snd 3 hours on this thing!!

I actually like the snack idea. We did that a couple years ago. I got a photo mug on shutterfly and boxed it up with all of his face treats.

Yes, it was just flour, salt and water. It really didn't turn out pretty at all even aside from fusing to the pan. I won't use that recipe again.

Sorry your hubs was upset...kids are messy! You can't never let them do anything though!

    Very cute!

Guennie-  I had to laugh.  I used to nanny for 3 little girls way back when and it was christmas time so I whipped up a batch of the salt dough and had the girls make christmas ornaments.  I had to leave the cut out shapes on the counter to dry overnight so they could paint them the following day.  When I returned the Mom was hysterical laughing.  Her husband worked in a hospital and was working the night shift.  He came home and thought someone made cookies so he took a bite.  Needless to say he was unpleasantly surprised and we all got a good laugh over it.  Every time I hear about homemade dough I have to chuckle!

  • Lol that is hilarious. I suppose you could mistake them for a sugar cookie if you didn't know. That's too funny.

  • Lol, I tried the salt dough too and both my 6yr old and DH thought they were cookies. When baked the fingerprints disappeared. Ugg. Thankfully I also bought some nuts and a new razor for DH and we postponed getting together with my dad until this weekend cause the kids were still getting over their viruses and my sister had an 8 week old.
