October 2015 Moms

Save some pennies.

This is for all the mamas who are looking to score on some cheap/cheaper baby stuff.

I'm a newbie when it comes to being a mom but I just found this store called Once Upon A Child. I had never heard of it-- apparently it's a chain store-- but it sells gently used baby through toddler items. My husband and I went in yesterday and bought close to 30 pieces of clothing, twenty onsies and a few sleepers, for $40. They are all basically band new or very, very gently used.

I see lots of you say you garage sale for clothes but if you're like me and don't get moving first thing in the weekends, this may be good option.

They also had some strollers, some swings, bouncers, toys, books, and baby carriers. They are pretty dominate in the clothing department, however.

Just a thought if you hadn't heard of it and want to save a few bucks. If there are any other stores similar to this, please share! :)

Re: Save some pennies.

  • Love OUAC!  I've been buying stuff there for years (for others' kids before and now my own!).  They also buy stuff.

I've been having a lot of good luck at Goodwill stores.

  • Never ever heard of them! Thank you for sharing as I'm in so much need of baby clothes right now!
  • I love them! I sold a bunch of my son's old clothes and made $85, some of which I used for DD.

Whatever you're given or buy new for your LO can be sold there for the next batch of clothes, too! (Unless you're saving them for future LOs, of course).

  • I've been to one once and will never go back to it again. I live in a very ethnically diverse area. The whole store smelled VERY strongly of herbs and spices that some cultures are customed to cooking with. I spent maybe 5 minutes in the store and had to bolt out as it was so incredibly strong and over powering that it was legitimately giving both my fiance and I a headache. I couldn't bring myself to buy any of the clothes. I know I can wash them but it was just too much for me.

I have heard great things though and people finding fantastic deals there though! We went on the recommendation from one of my co-workers who had bought a $150 brand new little boys outfit (still had the store tag on it) for $15 as well as a lot of other great things she found there!

Okay, a little off topic, but $150 for an infant outfit?! Are you kidding me? Was it woven with gold? (FTR I think $15 is an insane dollar amount for just about any item of clothing, so I'm obviously cheap. Miss Frugal if yer nasty.)

I actually worked for them! They're amazing and it goes both ways buying and selling; if at any point you decide you don't want something or you don't have a use for it take it over and sell it they're super great with how much they offer! The only thing is they don't clean anything (I.e. They don't wash the clothes and very minimally wipe the toys down) so make sure you clean and wash it before you use it!

Oh I know! She said she was amazed that someone would spent that much on an outfit. The store is in a very wealthy area where the people tend to have a lot of money. She said she normally wouldn't even spend $15 on an outfit for a baby but that it was too cute to pass up!
