High salt or low with OHSS?

I am 4 days post ER and supposed to have my embryo transfer tomorrow. Yesterday I became very bloated and uncomfortable. Today isn't necessarily worse but not any better. It's difficult to eat and hard to take a deep breath. I'm exhausted and really moody. I've been drinking protein shakes and Gatorade. My RE didn't say anything about salt, just said to eat high protein and drink plenty of water. I look like I'm about 4 months pregnant. I'm thinking salt might help.... Has anyone else had this problem?

I haven't specifically had that problem, but salt will actually make you more bloated, not less!

Did you start a progesterone supplement right after retrieval? That's the likely source of the bloating and you may have to settle in and ride it out if it's hormonal!

  • @jnissa yes I started progesterone the day after my ER. I've heard mixed things about salt but I was on the same page as you. Thanks!

  • My dr told me very low salt after my ER and a lot of water and protein. The moodiness is from the progesterone. The bloated feeling comes from your follicles filling with fluid and swelling after the eggs are removed. It took a good 7 days before I felt normal again.
