Trouble TTC

First time poster here and in need of some guidance (loss mentioned)

Hello,
I lurk the boards, but this is my first time posting here. Normally, I'm not one to seek the opinions of strangers, but I am baffled and would seriously appreciate some opinions while I await my appointments.

I lost our daughter the first week of April at thirteen weeks and bled for about three weeks following the ordeal. The first week of May my hcg was confirmed to be 0......On May 16-21 I took several test (read: crazy lady took 17 test) and all except CBD gave me positives, however my beta came back at 0. At this point my dr has convinced me I'm going insane and I drop the subject despite all the FRER and epts.

Fast forward to this week; urologist cancels important CT scan because my urinalysis shows up positive for pregnancy. This time my beta comes back at 30...this would be fantastic news, except I have yet to bleed since my initial loss in April.

I'll go back for draws and testing Monday, but as of now I have myself in a tizzy. Seriously, what could possibly make so many hpts give positive results when the bloods are negative? Is it possible my limited kidney and liver function could be impacting blood results?

We were taking a break from my Clomid 200mg to cope with our lost and let my body reset itself, so it seems very odd to me that someone who is anovulatory could get pregnant twice without meds. More so, is it even possible to have a miscarriage and get pregnant again without even the slightest of spotting between?

Honestly, any similarities or wise words would be greatly appreciated. I am absolutely driving myself crazy with worry.

  • If your hcg was shown at 0 and is now coming back at 30 then that indicates a new pregnancy but that level seems very low. You will need follow up to see of it continues increasing or drops again ?chemical pregnancy. Fx and good luck! My best friend had a mc then got pregnant her next cycle without a period between. As long as you passed all your products and were starting fresh! Perhaps your previous pregnancy kickstarted your body to know how fertility works?

  • Yes, I have follow-ups and ultrasound on Monday and Wednesday. I suppose I could have simplified my rambling by asking what could possibly result in so many positive urine test, but give negative bloods?

Chemical pregnancy is my only footing right now, but I was under the impression you had to bleed in order to call it that.

Thank you for the good luck wishes, I'm feeling as if I've gone mad and so need them!!

Hello and I am sorry for your loss.   There are several things that could be happening.   First, you don't need to bleed to get pregnant again, although it's not advisable to get pregnant right away if you were in your second trimester.  It's very possible that you ovulated after your loss, even though you were anovulatory before.   After loss your body can do all kinds of stuff trying to get back to normal.

Second, there have been several documented cases of false positives long after a loss.  This is often due to trace amounts of fetal tissue or active placenta still within the uterus, even after a DNC.     I had an online friend who still had positives for four months after the fact, even though nothing showed up on the ultrasound..  They made her take Cytotec and two months later the false positives stopped.  At this point, the only thing that you can do is continue taking betas and also an ultrasound couldn't hurt.

    Good luck to you...
