TMI: don't want to get paranoid...

The day before yesterday, I ate some salt fish - salted cod with onions, celery, peppers, it's also rather greasy - and all day yesterday I smelled off. It was hot and for the first time in my pregnancy, I was sweating with the heat in my office. I haven't had any increases in my discharge and the color is normal for me. I drank nearly 3 liters of water yesterday plus an 8oz glass of cranberry juice. Is it just the fish that threw off the smell of my urine and Super Pregnant Nose keeps picking it up when I'm in the bathroom, or is it something else? I don't have any other symptoms of infection or vaginosis except this smell. I'm trying to be very practical because I can't afford unnecessary doctor visits right now for just a scent. Thanks in advance.

  • Yea I guess you should see if it's better tomorrow and then maybe think about seeing a Dr if it still bothers you after that. You know how sometimes you eat asparagus and urine smells different? I think you should also look into low cost Healthcare for you and your baby so that you don't find yourself looking to the Internet for medical questions for baby because you cannot afford to take your child to the dr. Sorry if that sounds harsh.

  • I live in New England so sea food is a big thing around here. I always find that any time I eat fish (during pregnancy) it throws my scent off for a day or two. It's pretty gross, but I don't think it's abnormal!
  • @candicequeen makes a good point.

Other than that, it really sounds like you're okay. You aren't itching and there isn't burning or discomfort, so I really think you don't need to worry about smell. Our bodies do funny things, and producing stinky urine after certain meals is one of 'em!

Insurance, I have. I have regular doctor visits. But being a FTM, I wanted to see what other people had experienced before doing anything I felt was unnecessary. Especially since my body feels normal, and it's just the scent that's off. I've never been the type of person to think everything little is something major. It was harsh, but I understand what you mean. I research and ask advice about the little things. I know what the big things are to look out for and call the doctor for.
  • Yeah, stinky urine is definitely new for me. Never had it happen before, so I was just curious if I was putting 2 and 2 together properly.
