The first Actual appointment

I'm not talking about the intake appointment where they discuss history and your LMP.
I've already had that..

I'm talking about the first actual appointment for the baby. Mine is next Thursday on the 25th, and I'm just trying to figure out what exactly is going to be happening.
I can't remember if with my first they did the pap the first appointment or not.
I'm seeing a midwife, and I know she'll take my weight and blood pressure. We'll hear the HB, but are they gonna do anything else?

I've had my first intake, my blood drawn, my first two ultrasounds.

So I'm kinda wondering what to expect this time

Re: The first Actual appointment

  • They will do a pap at my first ob appt. Also reviewing my c/s report and discussing vbac, and try to listen to the heartbeat. I don't expect there to be much more than that.

  • I went with a midwife to.. Im just wondering what to expect during my first app ... I really want to hear my babys heart beat... Or even have an ultra sound!
  • I had my first this week, it was at an OB though so I don't know what a midwife does differently. It was pretty simple, height/weight/bp check, pap, and ultrasound. Nurse went over all the info about pregnancy and gave us a folder about labor and delivery options to start thinking about. She also scheduled next appointment and gave us info about genetic testing. We're high risk so she's sending us to a genetic something or other doctor at 10wks to do that testing and another u/s.

  • My midwife did heartbeat and blood work but no pap. She said that since I had one last year and the regs say every three I'm good. They did blood work and a urine sample and we talked about any questions I had.
  • I'm pretty much expecting a pap.
My midwife is at the woman's health clinic, I don't really get a choice who I see. I can see her or a doctor. They just schedule me with whoever Is available.

I'm expecting a weight, blood pressure, HB, pap.
  • If it's time for a pap they will give you one. My modwife just told me what to expect at the next couple of appointments. Besides taking vitals and possibly listening to the heartbeat there isn't much to do.
  • Well I'm 19, and haven't had a Pap since my pregnancy with my son.
I had him when I was 16. (I know "wow".) I was supposed to get one when I turned 18, but last year was very hectic and crazy. From quitting my dead end job, getting married and moving across country, I spaced and never even thought of it. Since it was my first year of actually having to get them done.
So I haven't had one in 3 years. So I'm pretty much expecting them to do one as soon as they say.

Had my first ultrasound Friday I was so excited I saw my baby jump!! But sadly I didn't get to hear the hear the heart beat but there's always next time. Here's my little one!!
  • With my OB during my first pregnancy they only did a check at my first exam and not at any other appointments. (Haven't been to the doctor yet with the pregnancy)
  • Every dr and midwife is so different, though in the end it usually winds up about the same. My first appointment they did urine, weight, blood pressure, medical history, blood draw, and pap then I scheduled an u/s for 1-2 weeks out followed by an appointment with the midwife to discuss my bloodwork and the u/s I suppose. Then after that I expect things to get fairly normal- every 4 weeks- urine, weight, blood pressure, Doppler, and measuring my belly (when it gets to that point) and a quick check in- that'll happen for a while until anatomy scan and eventually the appointments become more frequent and more blood work and what not.
  • Well my periods weren't regular. Ever. So figuring my due date took 2 ultrasounds already. So I've done my intake, and had 2 U/S done. And now I'll have this first real appointment.
I'm pretty much expecting everything and a pap. Then normal visits every 4 weeks.
I'm just thinking they're gonna wanna do a pap cause I'll be 11 weeks and 3 days on my appointment date. They like to do paps first thing to catch anything abnormal, early on.

I'm pretty sure all will be normal, I just don't like how uncomfortable they are. Plus lately, everything's been crampy and growing pains. So I'm thinking this pap is gonna make me cramp up even more.

But. We are women and this is the price we pay for being one. So I'm just gonna suck it up and get it over with as soon as possible.

I had my first apt today. I had an us at 8 weeks (heard the heartbeat then) and went in today at 10 weeks to meet with the nurse practitioner. It was just a urine sample, a quick exam, no pap for me because I had one last year and it was fine and they only do them every 3 years now unless you have an abnormal one. Then she asked me a ton of questions and I asked her a ton of questions. We talked about genetic screening and made an apt for 2 weeks (12 weeks along) to hear the heartbeat with Doppler.
  • My first appt is the same day as you!! I am scheduled for an ultrasound and bloodwork, then I have to come back in an hour to meet the nurse practitioner. I am so anxious!! I have no idea if they plan on doing pap.

    Good luck at your appt!!!

  • I'll only be 11 weeks and 3 days, but they picked up the HB on our U/S. So I'm hoping the midwife says we're close enough and we get to hear it.
As on the U/S there was no noise so we only saw the HB.
I'm nervous but I'm ready. It'll feel more real to me when appointments get regular.

Good luck at your appt as well!
  • My first appt is thurs the 25th. I'm super nervous since on my last pregnancy my first appt we found out it was a miscarriage.
