First time mammy so I'm not sure what to expect after birth! anyways what kind of knickers should I buy for when I've had my baby, and where should I get them from?
I'm in NZ so can't recommend brands or anything, but I got, high waisted, low leg, soft black cotton knickers.
You're going to bleed, you're going to be a bit sore and uncomfortable (even with a straight forward birth) and you just want things that are comfy to wear and easy to wash.
What maternity underwear are you wearing? Because I wear my maternity knickers well after birth until everything goes back to a normal size. They're comfy and black. But I didn't have special maternity knickers, just basically enormous normal ones. So I can wear them for a quite a while because in my sleep deprived state I couldn't care less if my underwear is a bit baggy, as long as they do the job.
The mesh ones are pretty awesome. I ended up with a c-section (footling breech baby) and actually preferred my normal low-rise ones cause they stayed below the incision. I've also heard ones that land mid-tummy are good as well for that since the band is over the incision. Not sure if it was just cause it was a c-section and they do most of the clean-out during the surgery, but I ended up with pretty mild/moderate bleeding after leaving the hospital (while there I was soaking through pads regularly). I was able to use normal overnight pads with my pre-pregnancy underwear without any issues.
