When Did You Realize You Were Pregnant?

Based on the first day of my last period I'm 5 weeks pregnant. I tested with two different brands of home pregnancy tests on two separate days and both came back positive. To be honest though, it's not a surprise. I could tell something was different with my post ovulation discharge so when I realized my period was late it was no shock.

According to TheBump's calculator I'm due March 5th. I know I'm posting in the wrong month but the March 2016 discussion is practically empty. I've been reading in February 2016 cause this is my first pregnancy and it wasn't exactly planned so I have no idea what to expect. DH and I haven't told anyone yet but I'm considering telling my parents for Fathers Day simply because we need someone to talk to. We have no idea what we're doing.

It doesn't feel like I found out abnormally early, but no one is posting in March. When do most people find out they're pregnant? I want to know when to expect more discussion in the March boards. Thanks!!

Re: When Did You Realize You Were Pregnant?

  • Hi Janelle!  I haven't been around long enough to know how other people found out, so I'll just share how I did.  My cycles tend to be 31 days long (plus or minus a day), never longer than 33 days.  So when day 33/34 rolled around and no period, I started thinking it might be because of pregnancy.  I also noticed my boobs being a little sensitive, but that's not abnormal for me around period time.  So I went out and got a box of 3 pregnancy tests and didn't need more than one - the first one came back positive!  That was back on June 4th.

If you're due March 5th then you're not 5 weeks pregnant. My EDD is 2/25 and I'm only 4 weeks 2 days today.

I think you either have your due date or your gestational age wrong.

    Congrats though!

  • I had kinds of sore boobs in hindsight, but I had no idea I wad pregnant. We had a lot going on at home (dog was sick and we ended up having to put him down) so it was the last thing on my mind.

Something about your dates doesn't make sense to me though. I'm 7 weeks 1 day and due February 5th. You should be due mid February not March. When did you start your period last?

  • I was peeing constantly, so I decided to take a test, just to be sure. We were NTNP and I haven't had a period since Aug 13 (since I got pregnant with DD).

  • I was going out with a friend and planned to have a drink or two and since I'm a paranoid person and my period was a tad bit late (2 days) I decided to check. I really didn't think I was since my period is usually different by a little every month. I was exactly 5 weeks when I found out.

The first day of my last period was May 16th. I swear the calculator said March 5th was my due date. (I remember cause that's a year and a day after my friend had her twins.)

    I checked the calculator and now they all say 2/20. Maybe I put my ovulation date originally? I think I'm losing it! 8-}

I started to suspect about 2 weeks before I missed my period because I was super emotional for no apparent reason. Then when the taste of toothpaste started to make me nauseous, I figured it was time to get the test. Positive, of course.

I felt like I would wither away if I didn't take a nap. I took a test about 3 days before my "expected" period and nada. The night before AF (or so I thought) I had some mild cramping so I thought for sure. So I took a few the next morning and bam! Positive. Also, now that I look back, my boobs were sore about 4 days before the positive. That's a normal PMS symptom for me, so I didn't think anything of it.

There is lots of info on this board! You can use the search bar at the bottom to look for symptoms and all sorts of stuff! Congrats :)

Oh and be sure to get yourself a good prenatal! There is a thread on that too!
  • My LMP was 5/13 and I'm 5w3d pregnancy... Due 2/17.

Congrats! I found out super early... Like 3w2d bc I had been cramping for 4 days and no period... My periods have been a little off so I tested, really for just shits and giggles, and it was positive. 10 test later, still positive. :)

  • How soon did everyone find an OB to schedule an appointment? I'm going to ask for OB recommendations this week (middle of my 5th week).

    Preggo brain strikes already! LOL.

  • I had a gut feeling, before I deployed DH and I had one cycle after I took out my IUD (non hormonal). Didn't expect it to happen. I had some mild cramping and a lot of discharge (TMI, sorry). I was out here a week, and couldn't wait any longer, the day I was supposed to get AF I tested. BFP!!!! Super excited but super nervous about how it is all going to work out.

I scheduled my appointment the day I found out.
  • When did I figure it out? Odd really. I was 9dpo, and had a headache, reached for ibuprofen, second guessed myself and took Tylenol instead, thought about it for 5 minutes. . . Realized I was unreasonably bloated for it to be pms, and tested. I was correct.

I found out super early. Had made an appointment with an OB since I had just moved, to talk to her about my irregular cycles and TTC. A week before my appointment I couldn't stop eating! (We were also having wine). My boobs were super sensitive, I wanted to sleep all the time and I could smell things a mile away. I had a strong feeling. I told myself I'll do a test in the am. If I'm not pregnant there's something else wrong with me haha.
So I got a faint positive that Monday. Tested next day with digital and it confirmed I was pregnant. So I showed up to my OBs office and told her reasons for my visit had changed a bit. Both H and I were very surprised. If it wasn't for the symptoms it still wouldn't feel real.
  • I started feeling weird on my week 2, sore boobs and getting up to pee in the early morning at the same time. Took a test and was pregnant and was on week 4, but I'm told that's because of all the hormones with having twins
  • We'd been trying for a while and I was working every month on making myself just trust God. So this month I just kept putting off testing and just trusting him. 3 days after my expected period, my husband and I got home and I just decided it was time! That's how we found out!! 7w2d today!
  • I Found out when I was exactly 4 weeks. I took a test because I was always tired and I when I was cooking the spices made me sick. I figured i had a bun in the oven. I was right.

  • I love reading these posts, because it makes me think I'm not a freak for having symptoms abc but not xyz! Phew!

I don't have the sore boobs or nausea yet, which maybe is strange, but I'm aware everyone is different. But some things, aside from the missed period, that made me think "possibly" was that I was feeling very lightheaded and was having hot flashes. My BBT was always in the 98.3-98.6 range, but my temperature had been in the 99s all week. Nips were tingly and just overly sensitive, but not hurting. So I took a test Thursday night, and thought I saw a positive, but my husband didn't see it. I waited until the yesterday morning, and there was no denying the BFP! Best line I've ever seen!  (I then took a digital to prove to myself that I wasn't making things up...oy.)

  • I was in a bad car accident May 28 and my period was due May 29. While in the hospital they did a blood test and it was negative and that due to the shock of the car accident I should wait a week or so to get my period. Because of the negative test I didn't worry about it and after a week of twingy cramps and no period I took a home test and found out June 11 I'm pregnant :D couldn't be happier!
  • Felt this unique queasiness at 9dpo that I oy had with the cp I had, so suspected then. Very faint positive at 11dpo, then super dark at 18dpo. The slight queasiness and super fatigueade me think this could be our month! 7wks today, still not much other than bloating and crazy fatigue - go stuff, but no legit nausea.

  • Hard to explain, but I just knew. 2 days after so and I dtd I felt maybe extremely mild cramping (felt more like a tickle) and then the next morning I noticed I was warm, and stayed warm. A week later the ridiculous trips to the restroom and exhaustion started and the last couple of days I've had some nausea. Edd 2/19. I'm 5 weeks 1 day today. After was due 6/10 took my first test 6/5 got a negative, retested 6/11 faint positive bought 2 digital and confirmed 6/11 bfp and 6/12 bfp lol

Found out at 4 weeks. I knew because my skin was looking fantastic and glowing lol. Also my boobs hurt. But the skin thing happened with my daughter too so I knew as soon as I looked in the mirror.
  • Had AF is coming symptoms on the Thursday and my AF is very very predictable.  Lots of gas, nausea etc.  Should have been there first thing in the am as usual.  It wasn't.  Held some pee and tested that afternoon.  Instant faint positive.  Went camping the next day and brought a FRER positive again.  And here we are :)
  • I didn't think I was because we had only had time together 2 times this cycle and it was 4 days before I ovulated. But yesterday I started smelling things that my DH couldn't so I tested this morning thinking there was no way and sure enough pregnant popped up. So this baby is a big surprise but we are excited.
  • I realized when two lines showed up on the test. I was charting my BBT and I was 12 DPO. All negatives before and therefore no symptoms.

  • I felt different and more tired than usual. My family is pretty active and when it got to the point where I was having to take a nap after the slightest thing, I suspected. I literally took 3 pregnancy tests all on different days!!! I had stopped my BC on May 3rd and we started trying.... Wasn't expecting to get pregnant that quick but we were ready! I went to the dr last week and found out that I was 6w6d at that time. I got to see the baby and the heartbeat. What a rush!!!! #4 for us!!
  • My stomach is usually very flat and I started having a little belly. I was brain farting a lot which is also not like me. But SO and I went to get a shake at Sonic and the cherry tasted gross. I love cherries...and my blood sugar would get super low.
  • I suspected I was pregnant..firstly because we had stopped using protection..but also just felt like I just knew, you know? I started being more tired, hungry, cranky..boobs started to be tender and discharge was different. A lot of the ''symptoms'' were much like pms, but I was still pretty sure I was pregnant. Sure enough, took 2 tests and both came back with 2 little lines!
  • DH & DS were at my sister's house for a BBQ with the rest of my family while I was home sick on the couch over Memorial Day weekend.  My boobs were a little sore and it occurred to me that I was a week late.

  • I think my first clues were the lack of my normal period symptoms. I usually start spotting a few days before my period, and get a zit. That wasn't happening. I also had some discharge. So, I tested the day before it was expected and it was positive! We were excited. We've been trying for #2 for almost a year, after a loss last June. I'm so glad it was positive!
  • We were trying to get pregnant so I was charting and I started tested at 10 dpo. I am a poas person so I was never able to wait until a missed period. I got a positive at 10dpo with both kids, before I had any symptoms. Funny story, when I told my Aunt I was pregnant the first thing she asked me was, how did you know? I was extremely confused, I was like umm I took a test? I didn't even think about most people take pregnancy tests because they miss a period or have some symptoms.

  • The biggest give away for me was sore boobs. I also had period like cramps but my period never came. I took a total of 4 pregnancy tests, 2 of different brands and they were all positive. I have yet to go to the doctor but I figure my EDD is somewhere around Feb. 8th.
  • I had a crazy, vivid dream..I never remember them, but this one stuck in my head. I was brushing my teeth the next morning, wondering why- and thinking, the last time I had a dream like that...I was pregnant. ::record screech:: I took a test that day, and it was negative. I figured it was too early though. Took one a couple days later, and positive!

  • I suspected I was pregnant when I started to have headaches everyday then the week after that I was sleeping more than usual and the big one that hit me was that I didn't get my period and a week later I took a test and low and behold I was pregnant. I'm 5 weeks so I'm still kinda early and very anxious because I've had a miscarriage before so I'm praying I make it through this pregnancy.
  • I knew about two weeks before I tested I was getting emotional watching tv, I had sore boobs I was all of a sudden hungry and having cravings then I took a HPT the first day of my period when it didn't come and it was positive. I have been nervous because I had a miscarriage my last pregnancy so I went to planned parenthood to confirm and sure enough they got a positive too. If you are unsure when you have your first ultrasound the doctor will be able to tell you the gestational age of your fetus and you will know better around when you are due. Congrats everyone I'm excited for us all...baby dust all around
  • I was feeling nauseous and my husband said 'I think you're pregnant'. I tested 6 days before missed period w/ First Response and sure enough 2 lines! A few days later tested again and super strong 2 pink lines. We're ecstatic!

I thought that it was too early in pregnancy to feel any symptoms so I'm glad to hear others are feeling symptoms too!

It just depends... If woman are actively trying they'll know at 4 weeks or sooner. If it's a nonchalant type of thing, probably 4 weeks plus (like you).

Your due date is also at the beginning of the month, so more people will join as they find out.

    Good luck
