Caffeine

so I was a huuuge coffee drink before I got pregnant. I'm talking two or three coffees everyday. I enjoyed the taste but until I got pregnant I didn't realized how bad my I was addicted. And I've been good since I've gotten pregnant and only had two total! But it's getting harder and harder especially with feeling tired more... Anyone else feel my pain? Any suggestions on helping me not crave it?! :)

Re: Caffeine

  • You can have coffee. Up to 200mg of caffeine a day is usually OK. Two small cups or one medium will do it. I usually go for iced. Yum. My exhaustion has been so much better since I started letting myself have it again.

  • I heard the 200mg a day. So I don't feel to guilty for drinking coffee... Haha do you drink a cup everyday?
  • If I have work. I usually get a medium iced coffee. On the weekends I avoid it.
  • Roasted dandelion root tea with a little cream and sugar...very similar taste to coffee without the caffein.
  • I'm waiting until 2nd trimester to have my coffee. Two. More. Weeks.

I am with @Vamason89.  Fortunately morning sickness and heartburn has helped me not really want coffee anyway so far.

  • My doctor says one cup a day of coffee is fine. I allowed myself it occasionally during my first pregnancy and all is fine with my happy and healthy 15 month old. Do what you need and don't feel guilty if u give in some days.

I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I am a soda drinker when I'm not pregnant.

I drank coke when I was pregnant with my first baby, even in the first trimester. I just avoided high caffeinated sodas like Mountain dew. I feel guilty this time because the brown cola sodas make me sick and all i want is the green/clear sodas. I just make sure if I have one that it's a can or bottle below 200mg. Don't beat yourself up about it, just try to stick to that guideline. I honestly couldn't make it without a little caffeine everyday. Running after an almost 18 month old is insane with all of this fatique.

  • Caffeine is fine. Even over 200mg, there's only a slight increase of mc. Drink the coffee!

  • I am a huuuuge coffee drinker. I'd have about 2-3 large cups of black a day. I've dialed it down to a cup of chai with a splash of coffee. Sitting down to enjoy that is my favorite part of the day!
  • I was a huge coffee drinker at least 24 Oz hot coffee from wawa every day before getting pregnant. For the first few weeks I couldn't drink coffee without it upsetting my stomach. I started having serious headaches from the caffeine withdrawal, so now that I can stomach coffee again, I have been getting a medium dunking donuts iced coffee (about 95mg of caffeine) on work days. It has really helped with the headaches. I am mindful of what I eat the rest of the day as to not go over 200 mg. I try to avoid coffee on the weekends.
  • I drink decaf and just the routine still makes me feel better.
  • I substituted iced coffee for a small iced chocolate milk- although I think there is caffeine in chocolate milk so far all I know it could be worse
  • I drink 1 or 2 cokes a day and whenever pumpkin spice season comes around give me all of them because I will drink2 a day
