Not able to drink any liquids...

In the beginning, I couldn't eat anything. Now, I can't drink anything! Even water makes me so sick. I don't wanna get dehydrated, but I don't know what to do! Any advice?

I have been ok with carbonated water. But maybe that would upset other people's stomachs. Coconut water has also stayed down for me.

  • Oh I went through this! I had a period where I couldn't get enough to drink and then all of a sudden my tummy didn't want anything. My best advice is to have lots of options- obviously water is the best but sometimes my yummy will take juice, sometimes my tummy wants a little carbonation, sometimes I can handle tea, sometimes water- I've also had bouillon, there's Popsicles, jello or watermelon are sneaky ways to get in liquid. This too shall pass
  • Oh and Gatorade can be a good one too
  • My advice would be to drink a small sip (only) of Gatorade. Rest for 20-30 minutes. Then repeat. If your body accepts the small sip, you can reintroduce the fluids very slowly and your body will stop rejecting it. Same with food. I'd eat a small saltine cracker. Wait. Then repeat. This has always helped me when I was sick. Hope this helps!
  • When I'm feeling like this, I add a bunch of ice to my water or Gatorade or whatever.
  • Hot and cold foods sometimes settle your stomach. Broth is iffy for me, but works for some. I do kool-aid Popsicles with salt if I really can't keep anything down. Also salted lemonade.
  • I am the same way! There was a time when I was drinking so much water it was ridiculous and now the taste is pretty terrible. I am practically forcing myself to drink it. When I am home I add lots of ice and that helps but the majority of my time is spent at work where I am unable to access ice :( so I have to deal with room temperature water and it is tough. But I'm trying. Forcing myself basically.

  • If you truly aren't able to drink anything and keep it down, you need to talk to your doctor about something for the morning sickness. It is essential you get enough fluids during the day for both you and the baby; otherwise you may need hospitalization for IV fluids.
  • It isn't due to nausea or anything for me. I haven't had morning sickness it is just one of my aversions at the moment. I am not too fond of the taste.

  • This has been happening to me too, I started chewing on crushed ice and it has been great!
  • I couldn't stand the taste of plain water either.  I ended up squirting in some lemon or infusing some different fruits.  That made it bearable.

  • Try Gatorade. That was what finally settled my stomach when I couldn't stop throwing up. I usually drink water all day but right now I can only stomach it at night so I try to drink a couple of cups before bed. Maybe see if it's not as bad at different times of the day.

I have been drinking only water and milk until the other day I added in Gatorade G2. It tasted like gold. However I did try to drink it as my "afternoon snack" and had crackers on hand in case I got nauseous.
  • Milk, gatorade, apple juice. I am 9 weeks today and if I drink water it comes right back up. Sip VERY slowly throughout the day, preferably through a straw.

Is it due to nausea or heartburn? There are great safe medicines for both of those conditions that can help.

FYI I have been dealing with this issue for almost two weeks, and live in CA. Three urgent cares refused to give me an IV specifically because I am pregnant, even though I couldn't produce urine any more. They told me I had to go to the ER. Instead of spending $1000 because I haven't hit my deductible yet, I took their medicine and have been struggling but getting better.
