Timea?

Thoughts on this name? It's pronounced TEE-may-ah. It's Hungarian in origin, and was originated in the novel "The Golden Man" by Mór Jókai. Middle name suggestions? I like Timea Pearl and Timea Rain.

Re: Timea?

  • Originally I figured it would ti-may-uh which wouldn't bother me. I feel as if a simple correction once or twice would suffice and people would understand.

  • And I pronounced it ti-MEE-uh, like a feminine version of Tim. That's 3 posters with 3 pronunciation variations.

If the pronunciation thing doesn't bother you, it's a nice name. There may not be many corrections as a child. But depending on what she does as an adult, she may be correcting a lot of people in the future.

    Love your mn pairings.

  • I also pronounced it ti-mee-uh. I like the option of Timea Pearl, but the pronunciation is a bit confusing.
  • I would have pronounced it ta-mee-ah. It's pretty, but I think she'll always have pronunciation issues. If that doesn't bother you, I like both middle names.

Same. I think it is nice but she will always be correcting everyone.
  • I would have pronounced it ti-MEE-ah. I like that.
  • I would have pronounced it Ti-Me or Ti-may. As long as you're okay with the corrections you'll have, Rain is a nice middle for it.
  • I just see the word time with an a on the end. In my head I said tie-MEE-uh (which coincidentally sounds like 'tie me up' lol). I think it might be a little too out there and she would be correcting the pronunciation constantly.

I think pronunciation would always be a problem...but that aside I like Pearl
  • She's going to be pronouncing her name for people all her life.

But it is a lovely name and I think Pearl goes well with it.

I don't think anyone would pronounce it correctly.
  • I thought it was ti-MEE-uh then I thought of the word timid. I think it will be too hard to pronounce or spell.
  • You could do a similar name Timothea to make it a bit easier on her later on. My friend is a Timothea and loves it.
  • tim ee ah or tim ay
