Glucose test isnt that bad...

I am relieved that I passed my Glucose test yesterday.  The orange drink really didn't bother me, I actually kind of enjoyed it!  I was nervous going in there based on what I read and people saying how terrible it was scared me.  But after the first sip, it went down like water and I was a happy momma. :)  If they give you an option for what kind of drink to have, pick the orange one!  Just my opinion, though ;)

I do mine next month. How long did you have to fast before you did it? My sister was saying she thought it was nothing after midnight. If that's the case, I'll have to change my appointment because it's at 2 in the afternoon. There is no way I can go all day without eating.

    Glad yours went well!

  • I didn't fast at all.  I woke up, ate a small snack, got a workout in, then ate scrambled eggs and some whole grain toast before the test.  I was never told to fast, and if I were, I probably would have put up a stink about how unhealthy that is for me and baby.  I am quite stubborn and get nauseous when I am running on an empty stomach since I have been pregnant!  ;)

  • I totally agree. I don't drink any pop/soda, so I always pour it over ice and it is like a little treat (yes, orange is the best).
  • They told me no fasting but not to eat a big meal or any extra sugar within 3 hours prior to the test. Glad to hear it isn't so bad, I'm heading for mine in a few weeks, it seems you read nothing but horror stories.

  • Same here I was scared out of my mind and I even said I don't want to do it but then I did and it was nothing the juice tasted like orange soda
  • I passed too yay! I also had the orange one it was tolerable but not great. I was fasting since I did the test first thing in the morning and it made me feel like crap and EXTREMELY exhausted for two days! The exhaustion was the worse part, maybe eating beforehand would have helped.
  • I wonder why some offices let you eat and others don't?  I was told nothing except water after midnight, and they gave me the earliest available appointment and told me to bring a snack to mow down after the test.  I got the "fruit punch" flavor, mmm!
  • Glad to hear it's not that bad! I have mine tomorrow!

I did mine yesterday. My doctor told me not to eat for two hours and the drink really wasn't terrible. It tasted like Tang just a little bit more bitter.
  • How far along are you ladies that have done the test? I'm 24 weeks but my doctor said I can't do the test until 28 weeks. Just checking because I don't want to be surprised by it when I go in for my 24 week appointment
  • i did mines at 24 weeks
  • @jcra7212 they should not surprise you with this one. I'm pretty sure my office and most do between 26 and 28 weeks as long as you haven't had any problems. I'll be having mine next month at 27 :) try not to stress!

I took one around 14 weeks and got the results within a few minutes.  My OB office did have me fast.  However, they don't require an an appointment for the finger poke, so I could drink the glucola on an empty stomach as soon as I woke up and go in at my leisure.  They will do a second test later on.  I'm not sure if they do two tests for every patient, or if it was a preventative measure because I'm overweight.  It seems to be their standard protocol.
  • they gave me the results today @24 weeks , the same day & i passed
  • I took the test a week before my 25 wk appt at an out of office lab and the dr had my results for me at my appt

I just took mine the day before yesterday at 24 weeks and they called me yesterday with the results... I didn't pass it and have to go back tomorrow to take the three hour one. I really don't get why I failed, I'm under 25, not overweight and have no family history of diabetes. I'm really hoping it was just a false positive or something! Not stoked about having to get blood drawn twice tomorrow and sitting in the office for three hours :-q oh, I did not have to fast for the one hour test but don't eat or drink anything high in sugars before the test... Tomorrow I have to fast 14 hours before the test. Boo!

You don't necessarily have to have a family history or be overweight to develop gestational diabetes. It's an insulin resistance caused by hormones. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you pass the 3 hour test.
  • I go for the 3 hour next week. Doctor decided to skip the one hour and just do the 3 hour test. I think because I'm overweight she thinks I'll fail (different doctor and hospitals). I did pass the 1 hour test with DS.

For this test I was told to fast 8 to 12 hours and can only have sips of water before the test. Not looking forward to 4 blood draws or not eating for so long :(
  • @annielynn89 did your doctor give you any special diet to follow?  I take the 3 hour on Monday and I have to “carb load” for 3 days.
