Lactation cookies - be aware of thrush

Hey guys, I've been making /eating lactation cookies since Wednesday. Increased my milk from 50ml expressed to 110ml plus dd gulping down her feeds. They have worked great until Saturday night and we've now developed thrush.

Doctor said it's pretty common for people to develop nipple/vaginal thrush because of the raw yeast overload after consuming the cookies. If you are going to make them I guess try eat as much yoghurt as you can to counteract this.

If anyone has any tips beyond the creams my nipples would be very greatful

Oh no! I hope your thrush goes away soon! Sorry I don't have a lot tips because I haven't had that problem. Have you tried coconut oil? I heard it helps.

I'm a little concerned though. I've been making/ eating lactation cookies or other treats for a while. What kind of yeast do you use? I've been using Brewers yeast. Thanks for bringing up the yogurt thing. I'll definitely be eating some after seeing this.

  • I preferred the raw dough to the cookies, it said on the recipe that the raw dough was more effective. I'm not sure if that contributed to it. I was using brewers yeast aswell. May not happen to everyone but I wish it didn't to me. After being really lucky with bfing my 2.5 week old is now scoffing down a bottle of formula because I can't have her on my nipple (nipples feel like they are on fire and razor blades cutting them even without her touching them) and I can't express enough at the moment to keep her going. Feeling slightly deflated but we will return to bteastfeeding once I'm better, I'll just keep expressing and given her expressed milk with formula top ups
  • Dr said no lanolin so I'm assuming coconut oil is out too. Have to keep nipples 100% dry because the warm damp sugary conditions is like steroids for thrush and treat with anti fungal. The dryness is the hard part, I'm just sleeping topless tonight so if I leak it can air out and dry it's self

Oh gosh!! I hope you feel better. I didn't know it could cause thrush.

I tried a no-bake recipe with the brewers yeast and found it tasted like a Ziploc bag. Did anyone else feel that way? Haha I'm completely serious with this post!! I don't know if it was the yeast or the flax seed.

Lol! A ziploc bag?! In the cookies and granola bars I've made they didn't have weird taste at all. I I haven't tried a no bake recipe but I think I might've seen it on Pinterest. Did you try the peanut butter balls with coconut? That's the one I saw but if it tastes like plastic I think I'll pass.
