Maybe not, but I'm in Canada and was told. Maybe they get around it by not actually saying boy or girl. She told me she saw a penis. Her exact words were "it's a penis kind of baby".
ETA. I know I had read about it (possibly becoming???) illegal in BC long before I was pregnant. I don't know if it is or not. However, it could vary by province because health care is under provincial jurisdiction.
Yeah Salty, not sure where you heard that but I'm from canada and all my friends found out at 20 weeks. Might be that certain provinces have a weird rule like that but none that i've lived in.

They wouldn't tell me at my anatomy scan. But we have a UCbaby and they tell us anytime after 18weeks for around $150+ I'm also in Canada, Nova Scotia.

Ok, this makes no sense.....you can not have professional medical personnel tell you boy or girl during an anatomy scan? BUT YET, ordinances/laws allow someone to open up private boutiques, with nonprofessionals doing a scan and they can tell you boy or girl, and that's legal???? Interesting, very interesting.
The people who do the ultrasounds at UCBaby are medical personnel. They are trained professionals, but I think the main reason the hospital doesn't tell us at our anatomy scan is due to the chance they are wrong and we try to sue. UCbaby makes you sign and fill out paper work. Our health care is also free is Canada so it could be to get more money also.
My Dr said before my anatomy scan that everything must be good from UCbaby, because if they find markers for downs, or other known medical problems they will forward the ultrasound to my Dr ! It's all so confusing I know !

Interesting, I am in BC and we were given the option to find out the sex of both our kids. With my daughter, during the anatomy scan they asked if we wanted to know, but we declined. For this pregnancy, I wasn't sure if they would tell us because we were at a different clinic but they asked if we wanted to know and told us straight out "it's a boy".
