Working out

Before I got pregnant I was a sporadic exerciser and since I miscarried last time I was pregnant I've been super careful this time not to do anything that could cause too much stress on my body especially in the first trimester. I'm just starting to feel so blah since I haven't been working at basically at all. And now it's extremely hot outside so I don't want to be out there for too long walking and things. Any suggestions on what I can do? I can tell I'm already gaining weight because I haven't been as active.

Re: Working out

  • There are a bunch of threads on this.

There is no reason you can't continue exercising unless your doctor has told you not to.

  • I'm also a sporatic exerciser.  I was thinking of picking up the prenatal yoga video that was mentioned on on e of the other threads- don't remember the name of it, but it had different exercises for different trimesters.  Swimming would also be good for the body if you have a pool around.  I belong to a gym and spoke to a trainer this monring (my dr's appointment isn't until next week) and she said the usual, just don't start any new exercises you haven't done before and listen to your body.  I asked if it was true about not doing exercises on your back, she said this early in the game you are ok, it's more 2nd and third trimesters.  She did say by exercising the body will feel better and the 9 months will go by faster

  • I did a pregnancy DVD with first pregnancy. I was the same way as you, tho. I miscarried at 9 weeks prior, so when I was pregnant again, I was scared to work out, even tho it generally really is okay. But I started the Lindsey Brynn dvd set ((there's a diff DVD for each trimester)) and I enjoyed it. There were 3 girls to follow, 1 easy, 1 medium, and 1 "max" work out level. And it was inside, and I felt like I could go do the whole thing (30 min) or stop early. Anyways! Just a suggestion :)

  • Thanks ladies! I just don't want to feel so "fat" this early on especially because I know it's not necessary anyways. I will look into the dvd's mentioned.
