Energy

....does anyone else have none? I thought the 2nd trimester was supposed to be where you get this giant burst of energy? For the past 3 weeks I have been so unbelievably tired. I don't know if it's the heat, or just me. I have to take a nap every day when I get home from work, and even still I'm out like a light at 10pm. Physical activities that were once routine for me have become chores. I've taken up eating fruit like it's my job...thought the sugar would help me out. It really hasn't. Does anyone have ideas on how to feel normal again? Because right now I feel like a big, fat, unproductive, lazy slob :(
Will this go away before the pregnancy is over?

Re: Energy

  • I've got none after cleaning for maybe two hours. My house is so neglected. :(

  • Im super tired. Ive also had really low bp this trimester (which is normal). I think that is also wearing me down. I nap when my daughter naps and am still exhausted

  • I don't have much but for me if I get up and get going at something (even something small like a craft) I feel less sleepy. If I just stay in my pj's most of the day and sit around watching tv I don't have hardly any energy.
  • I think when people say that you'll have more energy in second trimester, it's important to remember that it's compared to first and third. No one has superhuman energy during pregnancy, regardless of the trimester, and I think that sometimes the "second trimester energy" commentary that people hear can be misinterpreted and maybe misleading.

Rest, eating well, and finding ways to take a seat throughout the day can really help. Overall, pregnancy is exhausting most of the time. I hope you can find ways to make the most of the times when you have a little extra energy! My time is right away for the first half of the day, so I do a lot more then!

  • I start the day strong, but fade by the end (although I sometimes slip in a nap on the weekend). I don't usually make it to 10pm, though!
  • 23 weeks... I took a shower and washed my hair. Didn't even get to dry it cause I needed a nap after that.
  • I am so tired of being tired. The worst part is I try to prolong it and it just makes me feel worse later. Then if I take a nap I sometimes feel even more sleepy!! Where is the balance!!!
  • The only thing that helps me with low energy is exercise.  Counterintuitive, I know, but it really makes a huge difference for me.

Wake up at 4:30am... Zombie through work until 8:00/ 9:30pm... Get home and fall asleep asap... Wake up and actually change to pj's brush teeth , MAYBE, play a little bit of video games... Go back to bed...

Yeah, that's about it. Time is absolutely flying because I'm kind of just observing this thing called time rather than experiencing it. But 2nd trimester has actually been MUCH harder for me than the 1st so idk.
  • I spend all my time either waking up or deciding if I can nap lol. Sometimes I decide I should nap, and end up doing so anyway. This lethargy is exhausting all on its own!
  • Agreed. I convince my 5 yr old is bedtime before it actually is so I can go to sleep sooner! I found protein helps me throughout the day however. If I eat a hamburger, steak, something of that nature, I tend to be more awake and have more energy at least for a bit.
