Baby movement

Any other moms who haven't felt movement? I'm 20 weeks and the only thing I have felt so far is a weird sensation in my stomach like it was dropping. You know how it feels when you are in an elevator or on a roller coaster? I have my anatomy scan this Friday, so I'll know for sure everything is ok. I just wondered what was the latest that other moms felt the baby move or kick and if you had a due date before 10/31?

Re: Baby movement

  • I'm due 10/9 and started feeling kicks around 19/20 weeks. To me, they felt like that "stomach drop" sensation that you're describing. I never really felt the flutters or bubbles. Just the stomach dropping to more definite kicks. I bet you're feeling the baby, Mama!!!

I'm in the same boat! 21 weeks and all I've felt are slight flutters. I don't know what I'm supposed to be feeling at this point but my doctor said it's totally normal. Had my scan last week and baby looked great :)
  • Almost 21 weeks and only slight flutters now and then. You could have anterior placenta like I do; movement won't be as noticeable. But I was worried too until my anatomy scan.
  • My dr told me the dropping sensation was most likely the baby flipping around alot.. I started feeling movement right before 20 wks. I kept waiting for this popping/fish bumping feeling but mine ended up feeling more like muscle twitches...I just didn't know what to look for as a ftm. Now I can't stop feeling her kicks and punches all the time!
  • I think I started to feel her around 18 weeks, but as a ftm I am not 100% sure. At 20w 4d, I know I am feeling her move around in there. And it is definitely more of the stomach drop feeling than flutters. It's an odd feeling.
  • I started feeling her clearly around 21 weeks? Turns out what I had assumed was gas was actually her flopping around! I never felt "flutters"- more like the muscle twinges others mentioned.

Fun fact: there will come times when the babe will become less active as it grows-- I totally panicked last week about this at 23 weeks. I had been able to tell you like clock work when she'd start up and then suddenly, her activity was less frequent and not as strong. Emergency midwife appt later, I'm told when they are growing, they are tired and sleep more- so it's totally normal and her booming HR confirmed that. Now she's back at her clock work Zumba moves. :)
  • Due 10/30, thought I felt one little move the other day after laying there feeling for ten mins. Had anatomy scan today and all good. Wouldn't worry.
  • I started feeling this LO around 12 weeks. At first it felt almost like a heartbeat or pulse inside my abdomen and then at my 12 week scan I could see her and match her movements up to what I was feeling. By 17 weeks my DH and kids could all feel her while touching my stomach. Now I can even feel her hiccups. This is my fifth and definitely the earliest I have felt movement with any of my pregnancies. I wouldn't worry. With my first 2 I felt almost nothing during my whole pregnancy. They just were not very active and the way I carried them played a big part. Good luck and enjoy your a/s!!
  • 21 weeks with anterior placenta and I'm sitting here now watching my stomach jump while he kicks. O_o

I had that same panic last week as well! She had been moving like crazy for the last several weeks (I started to feel her moving late 18 weeks, I'm 24 weeks now) then all of the sudden I realized I wasn't feeling her move! After an hour of searching online I was able to reassure myself that it was normal for her to slow down her movements and a ton of moms were experiencing the same thing I was at the same time. The next day she was back to kicking and rolling like crazy. She's actually kicking around while I type this. I love feeling and watching my baby girl move. :)
  • i am 22 weeks today, due October 20th. i have been freaking out over not feeling any movements yet.. but i found out the other day that i have an anterior placenta, so i guess it takes longer to feel movements. but the dropping sensation you are describing almost sounds like something i experienced today for the first time! i was wondering if that was my son i was feeling, but with this being my first pregnancy i have no idea what i should be feeling!! everyone talks about flutters and butterflies so that is what i am waiting to feel but i guess we will see as time goes by! but i wouldn't worry mama, your placenta is probably in the front, just like mine! and for all we know, that 'dropping' sensation probably is the little ones!!
  • This is my second pregnancy and I didn't start feeling movement until 22 weeks. My doctor said anywhere between 18 and 24 weeks is the norm.

I'm 22 weeks, 1 day and I'm excited that I started noticing/feeling movements last week! They get just a bit stronger/more noticeable everyday. They're still subtle and feel like soft nudges from the inside. My husband has only felt it once ("it felt like a muscle spasm"), but I'm sure it won't be long until he can catch another one. We saw Jurassic World on Sunday and baby was poking/nudging a bunch whenever there were loud noises. It was honestly the most entertaining part of the movie for me lol :p
  • In my opinion (STM) there are a couple of different feelings you could feel. The rolls I could see why someone would say they feel like a dropping feeling..then sometimes the baby pokes or move their toes and I think that's more of the fish/butterfly feeling people describe (which I personally feel way low in my stomach, esp when I'm sitting) and then there are kicks which you can def feel and can't mistake. Hope this helps!!
  • I'm a FTM and I didn't feel anything until about 20/21 weeks. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to be feeling. Now at 23 weeks I feel her constantly! I wouldn't worry :)
  • First time mom? I did not feel it during my first pregnancy until 21 weeks

This time it was 17 weeks
  • I will be 22 weeks this weekend and still waiting to feel anything (I think at least).
  • I started feeling my LO around 19 weeks or at least I thought she did? It was kind of like my stomach was rolling inside and other times it would be bubbly . I am 23 weeks and now feel definite kicks. I have an anterior placenta so DH didn't feel her until yesterday! You will feel her soon:) !
  • I didn't feel much until about 21 weeks but now at almost 25 I feel him quite a bit.

21 weeks today and literally yesterday is when I started feeling him more than once a week. Feeling him right now, actually.

  • Yep, definitely a first time mom lol! I went to my anatomy scan Friday and saw baby just a wiggling! Every time the tech touched my belly with the wand, the baby would kick! I guess I'm more attuned to the feeling and feel him moving constantly now!

  • Can anyone tell me what hiccups feel like vs regular movements? I would imagine them to be more rhythmic and possibly more subtle.

I'm a member of the anterior placenta club so just in the last week or so (I'm 26 weeks now) have I been able to really feel strong kicks.
  • @leah665, I also have anterior placenta so the movements that I feel are fairly subtle on general to what others describe.

I was wondering what hiccups felt like and then a few days ago I felt the exact same jump/movement every 3 seconds for a while so I figured that was hiccups, since they were in the exact spot and rhythmic.
