I believe in going barefoot for a lot of reasons. I tried to find a quick and easy reference for people, and this is what you get from me:

I think DD will probably experience a blister or two in her life, but I will tell you, I never had something like that picture on my feet when I went barefoot as a child. I feel like the reward outweighs the risk in this case. I feel horrible for that little one and his blistered foot, but I also don't think it's cause for concern and reason to put shoes on all of our LOs all summer. There are a lot of sensory benefits to going barefoot, plus, it expedites the going outside process

Omg !!!! Unfortunately this happen ed to my son when he was mb 4 yrs old we were at the park in the sprinklers he was wearing sandals with the elastic on the back and we were running in and out of the water he ran off towards the jungle gym with the black rubber mats on them and his strap popped off and his right foot became barefooted, all I heard was him screaming the worst holler in the world I quickly and I mean in a matter of 4 seconds or so I picked him up to see him have blisters on the ball of his foot and on the outer edge. It wasn't as bad as this poor baby's but it was enough for me to take him to his urgent care doc and luckily it was not as bad but could have been worst! He wasn't able to wear shoes or walk on it for a few days. This doesn't just happen from running out barefoot w my son it was a total accident on something we all thought was safe. After doing some research and talking to the park ppl they did say that they were changing those black mats to something safer but they did post up signs warning parents!

@LiveNLove44 i never ever thought it could bubble like that, my son will go out on the step without shoes or sandals ! But when it comes to grass or sand he CANT STAND the feeling between his toes ! Oh and God forbid if he's outside playing if he gets dirt on him, instant bath.. He was eating a choco chip muffin and crying because there was chocolate on his face. I got a clean freak ! Haha

@gabrielafrnquepez, I hate those black surfaces, too! We have a cement driveway and DD is usually only barefoot at home or at a neighbor's house. I can definitely see how an accident like that can happen though! We are always checking the slides and swings at parks because they get SO hot! We've seen news broadcasts about kids who get burned at parks in the summer, so it's definitely something to be aware of!

@gabrielafrnqyepez I couldn't even imagine the pain he must of felt. What a sin !! I had my son running around playing with my boyfriends nephew and he ran into the wood stove and caught both his wrists. They blistered bad, but not like the pic posted above !! Yikes !

DD is like that, too, with food and messes outside. I don't know who taught her that! (Okay, it was me...) We wash our hands a lot...

@LiveNLove44 yeah my son likes to clean too, it's so weird, cause most kids will play in the mud and get dirty ... Then my son is like OH NO NO NO NOOO ! It's so funny, and when I tell other people they are like what a sin you ruined his childhood !

@LiveNLove44 we would be out the mall shopping and there would be a wrapper on the floor, he would tell me "look mommy there's a mess someone has got to clean that up".

Poor baby of mine!! I will never forget his yell I felt so guilty after that day we do water shoes at the park even if he didn't tlike them! And only don't get me started on the clean kid stuff my son still hates the sand feeling on his toes and if he gets ice cream or smtn forget it true bath time! He's 7!!!! He says mom no girl likes a messy man! He gets the neatness from dh he's very much like that!

I know I'm so cautious when it comes to children, my parents told me I better just put them in a bubble.

I bought water shoes this year for my son, because the beach we swim at has rocks and shells on bottom, and last summer my feet were cut to pieces and I wouldn't let him in the water without sandals. He got water shoes this year, I remembered to get them early !!

I second this @amberrmaree worst part is u scare your self too!!!!! What are u googling ??!?!? Lolzzz!!! I guess better to know and avoid it!?

@boombarian, that is an excellent idea. We need more posts about moms who are doing it right (I'm using the term "right" loosely here!). I'll see what I can find!
