Trainer??

Before getting pregnant, I bought 4 sessions with a personal trainer. I had the first one before I knew I was KU, and then the second one at four weeks, right after finding out. I told him I'd been sick for a few days and would have to take it easy. I survived.

My next session is supposed to be Friday--I'll be six weeks. I feel terrible today. Morning sickness hit me like a brick wall, and I'm tired all the time. I tried to do a light workout yesterday and only lasted 20 minutes on the elliptical.

I really want to stay active during this pregnancy, but I'm nervous about intense workouts. Do I tell the trainer I'm pregnant and will need to take it easy? Do I postpone the session, since I seem to be hit with symptoms extra hard this week and I may feel better in a couple weeks? Or do I just cancel the sessions/give them to a friend, since I probably can't reap most of the benefits of personal training during pregnancy?

TIA!

Re: Trainer??

  • Personally, I'd either tell the trainer or postpone. They'll probably have some good advice that can keep you active during pregnancy.

  • I see a trainer 4 times a week and told them as soon as I found out. They are good about reminding me to dial it back a little etc.

If you don't feel well then cancel. But if you were active before there is no reason to take it easy.
    You aren't broken.

  • My last pregnancy I worked out with a trainer until I was almost 8 months pregnant. I would definitely tell them because there are so many changes going on with your body. The hormones affect so much including your balance and coordination. And as you progress through your pregnancy they can suggest appropriate modifications.

If you can hold on to them until you're not having as much morning sickness that would probably be best. If you have to use them within a certain amount of time, you could give the sessions away or use the sessions to plan workouts for later in your pregnancy.

  • Even if you have to use them within a certain amount of time---perhaps tell the trainer/gym that you just became pregnant and want ot continue but would like to wait a few weeks till you are feeling a little more like yourself after the first tri.

  • Thanks, all! I wrote the trainer and postponed the sessions. I'm hoping I may feel better before too long, but doing a full body hour-long workout sounds like hell to me right now. Postponing was definitely the right call.
