2nd Trimester

Why does it take longer to feel baby move?

Why does it take longer to feel baby's flutters in your first pregnancy? And pregnancies after that I've seen women who have felt it at 11 weeks!! I'm a FTM, and dying for the day I get to feel baby. I know he's active because of our last ultrasound he was super squirmy :P

Just wondering if it's the anatomy or experience or what? Sorry for the ignorance :)

  • I think experience has a lot to do with it. It might also have to do with the placement of the uterus and that the body has "done this before." I also think back and wonder if I felt it sooner during my first pregnancy but thought it was gas or something else.

  • It also has a lot to do with where your placenta is.

  • I think it's that you recognize the feelings faster during a second pregnancy. The first flutters are really easy to miss (so I hear, I haven't felt them yet, I don't think) but I think once you know what they are you will recognize them right away in the second pregnancy.
