3rd Trimester

migraines

I have been getting the absolute worst migraines since my 2nd trimester hit. I never got them like this before pregnancy. Does anyone experience them during late second trimester into the 3rd?? I never see the same doctor at the OB and the one I saw today insists that it isn't from pregnancy.. I personally think he's crazy.

Re: migraines

  • Migraines are hormonal. Funny thing with me was I had 2 during my pregnancy and almost monthly when I wasn't. All were around my period. Take some Tylenol and drink caffeine it should help.

Tylenol never helps... I even use ice on my neck. They get unbearable :( like I just lay there in bed with my eyes closed cause watching TV or anything makes it worse. I'm gonna call the doctor again. Cause there has to be something they can do to help right?
  • Migraines are not necessarily hormonal. Did you experience them before you got pregnant? I suffer from Hemiplegic Migraines, which I've had since I was 14. I'm 37 and 30 weeks pregnant with #5. My migraines this pregnancy have been horrible! Unfortunately, 800mg of Advil as well as my prescription triptans are all that will kill them. Tylenol does not touch them. Advil is a definite no-no but my triptan is actually approved. If you did experience migraines before, perhaps talk to your dr about having triptans to take incase you do start to experience one. I have found though that placing an ice pack on the base of my neck and hot water bottle on my lower back helps a tad. Hope you feel better soon!
  • I've had migraines before but rarely. I've been getting them alot more in the third trimester which is weird but I can usually tell when I'm about to have one cause my eye will start to go blurry in certain spots. I take tylenol since I can't have anything else. And sometimes if I eat something it helps too. I did tell the doctor about the migraines and they prescribed me something but the pharmacist was hesitant to give it to me cause it was a category c medication for pregnancy and he said that it can cause neural defects in the brain during the 3rd trimester and after theyre born learning disabilities so I passed on that cause I didn't want to risk it. Just talk to your doctor and see but also ask the pharmacist aswell to make sure there's no big side effects to the medication that your doctor prescribes for you

I'm 29 wks and I've had a constant severe migraine since mid April. They get so bad that I've had to get IV morphine a few times and that barely helps some days...I've had migraines before this pregnancy (#2). I've also had a mrv of my brain looking for clots and there's nothing there to cause it other then the hormones. I've been told that some women get severe migraines during pregnancy because of the hormones and basically the only thing you can do is pain control. Wish I had some tips to help you but I don't..
