Slow weight gain... Will it come at end?

Hi all-
Just wondering from experienced moms what your thoughts are... I know everyone's different. But so far only gained 3-5lbs at 20+4 weeks. Have others like that for the first half than packed on the lbs/gotten chubby at all later? And if so how much and when? Thought it would still come but now starting to be hopeful I won't gain that much. And if so can it please be all belly! Would be so nice not to gain much face/arm/thigh fat like I thought I might! For frame of ref I am 5'6" and starting weight was 125ish.

Re: Slow weight gain... Will it come at end?

  • Well I am 23 weeks and have only gained 4 lbs. I've talked to my doctor about it and he said for my size and height that I'm doing great (5'8 255lbs). I also eat pretty healthy and exercise every day so he said that's a big part of it. I'm also tall and have a lot of muscle so it takes longer for me to gain the weight. I've only gained in my middle. My doctor wants to see me gain 15lbs by the end which I'm sure I will.

I would ask your doctor about it and see how they feel or what their goal weight is for you. My blood sugar got a bit too low b/c I could never eat at work (one of the reasons why I finally resigned) but they told me that I need to be eating six small meals a day and make sure I was eating when I was hungry to keep my blood sugar levels healthy and keep the baby healthy. But yes, as my doctor put it, a lot of it will come at the end. Now I'm a FTM and maybe some other mom's could answer better, but I would honestly talk about your weight goals with your doctor so that you know where you need to be to keep you and the baby healthy.

  • It took me a while to have any gain because I lost 10 lbs, compared to before conceiving, during the first 12 weeks due to morning sickness. At almost 24 weeks, I'm up 6-7 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight. My doctor is happy with this. She was pretty clear from the beginning about healthy weight gain. I'd ask next time you're in about the recommended gain.

And please, pretty please, don't use chubby when referring to a pregnant woman's body!
