Trying to Get Pregnant

Nooooob!

(Sorry, I didn't know what to title my intro to make it stand out. If it helps, in my head it sounds like Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds. Neeeerds!)

So, I'm a 33-year-old TTC #2. I have a 4-year-old son and it was almost too easy to conceive him. I was incredibly lucky back then because I've been discovering just how ignorant I was about the whole process. I'm a little more worried this time around due to being older and a few medical problems I've had since then. My doctor discovered my bicornuate uterus when I had my c-section due to breech presentation. This can sometimes lead to late-term miscarriages, which is terrifying. I also had to have part of my thyroid removed a couple years ago and I'm on medication for hypothyroidism. I'll have to be closely monitored if I do get pregnant to make sure the baby is getting all the hormones it needs. I would probably be considered high-risk and I found out from my doctor that a vaginal birth won't be possible.

Back then, I really wanted the whole natural experience - drug-free vaginal delivery, breastfeeding, etc. I had a c-section and had to formula feed due to insufficient milk supply. Nothing had turned out how I had planned and then I ended up with post-partum depression. It was a really difficult time for me.

Knowing what I know now, I'm just thankful that I was able to carry my healthy boy to term. I'm approaching this attempt at another baby with my eyes open and I'm very aware of my limitations and how I can't plan the unplannable. I've been lurking a while and have learned so much from you ladies. Thank you. I've checked out "Taking Charge of your Fertility" from the library, started BBT charting and checking CM, and have the FF app. I went off bc in mid-May, so I've just been practicing with the charting so far. I'm hoping to get serious with this cycle though and hopefully can notice some patterns soon.

Well, if you made it through all that, thanks! I just wanted to introduce myself since I plan to start posting some and didn't want to seem like such a stranger.

    Triple LFAF IVF Cycle:

  • Welcome and good luck!
My story is a little different to yours, but I too fell pregnant very easily with my first.
I ended up with pregnancy related hypothyroidism, severe preeclampsia and an emergency c section at 35 weeks! Also was planning a natural birth (although was totally OK with how things turned out as my "premmie" baby weighed 6pound13 and was super healthy, very blessed).
I too am TFAS and will also be considered high risk. It's a scary feeling. I'm also getting some tests done as my doc suspects I have PCOS.
Sorry for the thread hjack, just feel our situations are similar in a way.
Hope all goes well for you xx
  • @evabear123 Please don't apologize. I was hoping to hear from others that might be going through the same thing. It sounds like your first pregnancy was pretty scary, but I'm happy to hear everything turned out great. I think my thyroid problems were triggered by my pregnancy too. It wasn't long after the birth that I had a nodule start growing on my thyroid and eventually had to have it removed because it was obstructing my breathing. Those pregnancy hormones can wreak havoc. Anyway, I hope you get lucky with conceiving your second soon! Thank you for sharing your experience.

To everyone else, thank you for the warm welcome!
  • Hi! Noob here as well!
