Should I go pink?

I was going to keep the nursery very neutral and not go gender specific. Im not super into girly, monogram, crazy decor. A few nights ago I had a dream that my husband painted the nursery a light peachy pink. My husband later told me (after I told him about my dream) that he actually would like to paint it a pink. Any thoughts on a pink nursery? I'm really into color theory and how color effects mood etc

If you like pink go pink. We did yellow, blue and grey with our daughter. We also had butterflies. Her room is now grey and we are going to use purple accents. I like grey because we can switch out the other color as her tastes and likes change. Maybe go grey with pink accents?

  • Go purple (: !
  • The good thing about it is it is just paint. If you hate it, just change the color.

For my daughters room, my husband wanted it to be pink, but I was afraid of there being too much pink so he put white wainscoting on the bottom half of the wall and the top is pink. She has teal and white bedding so even though te walls are pink, it isn't too overwhelming.
  • That sounds very pretty! Maybe do one wall and see how you like it? Otherwise I say go for it, you can always paint it over. I mean your husband can paint it over.

A peachy pink would be nice without being crazy in-your-face super-girly.
  • I'm doing light gray, white and pink accents. I'm also not super girly. Example pictured image

That is what we are doing for our baby girl's room. Grey and then accenting with yellow/gold, purple and teal. That is exactly why I like the grey too, because you an switch out so many different colors.

I don't know, that setup seems pretty frou-frou to me...
  • Color examples. Not the decor. It's not all pink walls and pink everything, the pink is accenting. @urby87

I think there are shades of pink and color combos you could do that would be feminine but not girly-girl looking. Like coral/turquoise, peach/navy etc.

I thought you were using that as an example for decor as well, not just the color scheme.

I'm not big on all pink or all blue anything based on having a boy or a girl. I love a natural base with color accents for a lot of reasons, but mainly:
    1) You can quickly and easily change the theme as the child grows older without painting again.
    2) Your child has more flexibility with his/her color scheme if they have accents to work with later in their childhood (if they're allowed to have a say).

I don't think repainting is that big of a deal, but it is annoying to me to have to take everything down, tape, blah blah whole process of painting. If you don't mind doing that, I'd say do whatever you want!  I just personally prefer an earthy base (off-white, beige, gray, etc.) with colors in other items. Have fun deciding! It'll be cute either way :)

  • I'm the opposite. I love pink but my husband didn't want a pink nursery. We were gonna do yellow and grey but couldn't agree on any yellow bed sets. (Most of them didn't look girly enough to me) So I found a set with lots of different colors in it (even pink!) and DH even mentioned redoing the bookshelf we have with a light pink chalk paint! I think we're gonna paint the walls a really pale yellow color so it will be girly but not princess pink girly.
  • I'm not super girly either but I love sea green with pink accents like this
  • We are doing a Star Wars themed nursery and accenting with pink since it's a girl. Crib is gray, I just painted the dresser in a light blue/mint chalk paint, and we are staining the rocking chair gray. I am pretty much hand making all the Star Wars stuff since there isn't a lot of girl items out there, but it is still going to be cute without being frou frou.
  • Your mention color theory in the OP . . . I don't know much about pink but I do know lavender is soothing and also inspires creativity. I think a warm, peachy pink would be a nice happy color and you wouldn't have to make it really "frou-frou" as long as you use more neutral accent colors or decor.

    Maybe pink and taupe?

  • I would do a neutral and accent with pink. Lots on Pinterest. I only say that bc then if you have another baby you don't have to paint again if boy and want to use same room!
  • As someone who has repainted EVERY room in her house, I vote for painting neutral and accenting with color. We painted the nursery a soft gray and will use turquoise and pink. I don't ever want to see a paint roller again!

Our walls were painted a soft gray when we moved in and we opted not to repaint (who knows what the girls will want when they're older, and the paint was in great shape). Instead we are doing some pink accessories. If your husband wants pink on the walls, maybe an accent wall would be a good compromise.
  • @leighann1 I plan to do exact same. All the grey and white is done now just waiting on baby to come to accent! Team green!!
