Currently on vacation and having a horrible reaction to being at the pool to the chlorinated air AND to the chlorine on my skin! Getting red splotches all over. Needless to say feel horrible for my son who just wants to splash around with his mom..and going to be LONG summer if this persists! Anyone else?

Re: Pool problems

  • Oh no! Floating in the pool is one of the few things that make me feel a little better about the heat this summer!

  • My skin is extra sensitive to some things, too. I haven't been in a chlorinated pool in awhile, but maybe it's just the amount of chemical in that pool that's doing it? I'd call your OB for recommendations. Sometimes commercial pools will have a treatment day and the following days tend to bring on more skin issues for people than when the strength of the chemical (weakens)? That's just an observation. I do not do science in that arena. :)

  • For those of you having these issues at home you can do the conversion to saltwater for about $1200 using a licenced electrician and contractor. Less if you do it yourself, but I didn't want to mess with the electric. Its better for us and will be better for baby. It has an inline salt chlorine generator, but it is only in the line. No smell, wont mess your dye job up, and leaves skin much softer!
  • Certified pool operator here - oddly enough, if you can smell the chlorine that usually means there's not enough chlorine in the pool and/or that the pool needs to be backwashed. Talk to someone about the pool for sure - you shouldn't be getting splotches for any reason!

  • The resort actually has a salt water pool also! We had to get in the car and drive to it because was in one of the other sections but it was much better and "fixed" my sons booboos! I couldn't handle the chlorine smell at all I don't know if pregnancy nose or what but I almost fainted from smell! Thanks for advice ladies! I never would have guessed there was less if you smell it!
