Bad breakouts

hi, iv been ttc for 5 months after a previous miscarriage. The problem I'm finding is that now I'm off birth control my skin is really suffering with acne. Just wondered if anyone is experiencing the same thing, and what advice you have? I'm already using duac cream prescribed by the doctor. I'm 23 and previously have taken accutane when I was a teenager to clear up my skin. Thank you for any advice or suggestions given.

Re: Bad breakouts

  • I'm not experiencing breakouts exactly. But my skin is very sensitive And some acne, dry spot break outs and then I'm oily... I'm a Mary Kay consultant but I consulted my director cuz I never have skin issues, here is what she said. Your body is changing due to hormones, you probably don't have the correct formula for the new changes. However I would warn you not using the same brand of items can lead to pH imbalance and also cause problems, perhsps one you are expirencing. So I use of course all Mary Kay (but each set of skin care is pH balenced! So using different pieces of different skin sets are ok!! Good thing because I've become allergic to certain pieces!!) but i found out i have to use time wise normal cleanser, botanicals moisturizer, botanicles mask as my exfoliant. I cannot use any extras like firming eye cream or so on.. If my face feels dry still I can use our extra moisturizer, and only our cc cream foundation. Good think as I was shopping for the right formula Mary Kay was sucking up the cost to change everything out because I'm turning up allergic to the new products i purchased. I can send you samples if you want to try! Just let me know your skin type and address.!

I switched to Dove soap & Lancome Hydrazen moisturiser (the anti-stress one). It's made a massive difference & the breakouts/dry & oily patches are pretty much gone. Good luck it's just so embarrassing to have acne as an adult particularly at work! Well I think so.
  • I've had acne since 12 and tried every otc and prescribed acne medication available. The only thing that worked for me was accutane, my skin was amazing for over a year before it came back. I never went back on it, but have kept my acne somewhat under control with a clindamycin/sulfur cream- still get breakouts here and there. However, I haven't used it since I got pregnant and my breakouts got bad again (I get the cystic kind that leave scars, so it's more than just an annoyance). For the past 2 months I've been using 18+ Manuka Honey as a mask 2x a day. I keep it on for 30+ minutes then rinse with warm water, pat dry, and apply a small amount of oil-free moisturizer. My skin looks pretty good :) I get a zit occasionally, but nothing major. Maybe try that out?

Also, I try to stay away from dairy. It seems to cause breakouts when I eat or drink anything with dairy.

Look up Maca. It's a root in Peru you can take in powder or pill form. They say it's a superfood not an herbal supplement and side effects are minimal and rare. I bought some as I went off the pill as a preventative because I've been on the pill since high school when I had horrible acne, and was terrified it would come back as my hormones sorted out. I read that Maca supposedly helps your body find its own hormone balance without adding any artificial hormones. I have been off the pill for 3 months now and no major breakouts ;)
