TMI! Hemorrhoids! Home remedies? Any suggestions?

And so just as I hit 28 weeks - I've got a new pain. . . in the butt  . . literally.  Prolapsed hemorrhoids - the kind where they stick out - are making me feel like I've got sandpaper rubbing that very sensitive spot with each step I take!  Ok - I know this is TMI but I seriously cannot even walk a block without bleeding and agonizing discomfort!  I've been told by pharmacist that there is no known safe meds (not even Prep H!) that I can use while prego and doc says i'll just have to suffer through.  Surely someone out there has found a way to reduce swelling or reduce the painful sensation that is safe.  These literally came out of nowhere!  I am not constipated and I've not had any issue previously up until they came on full force one afternoon a few days ago. Interestingly Google searches have suggested exercise can help but I cannot exercise - too painful!  It also says don't sit or stand for too long - I've been alternating and laying down as much as possible.  Tried sits baths and witch hazel to no avail.  I've also tried tucking them back in - but they just pop back out!  Suggestions?

  • The only thing that might help can b Vaseline, hope it gets better... I know they can b very uncomfortable X_X

  • My doctor gave me a list of things that pregnant women can use for hemorrhoids and the list says anusol, prep h, tucks pads and witch hazel. So maybe try on of the other three that's not the prep h, if you're worried about using the one. But I hope this helps!

Grab some Earth Mama Angel Baby bottom balm (for moms).
It doesnt make them go away but it feels nice.

All the fun that comes with cute babies :P

  • Witch hazel works wonders! So do warm baths. Try getting the wipes with witch hazel. Also try not to sit on the toilet for too long. That makes mine worse . My list of meds from the dr had prep h ob it too.
  • You can take prep h. I also have this fun 3rd trimester symptom!
  • @barrelocarol omg! I've never laughed so hard. Thanks for that image! But seriously soooo sorry you ladies are going/went through this, I'm just keeping the fingers crossed that they don't happen to me, but I know I'm close cause I get so constipated lately.
  • Me too. I haven't figured anything out yet. But I'm right there with ya :( :-S (:| :-\"
  • Girl! I had this for 8 weeks straight! Don't suffer in silence!!

My doctor gave me tons of potions and even referred me to a GI. There are ABSOLUTELY medications you can use safely. Get them!

I was given lidocaine 5% cream and some anti-inflammatory (can't remember the name) and something called ProctoSol.

Try running around the house in lingerie, with witch hazel soaked cotton balls on your butthole, with 2 different creams, with a tube of something called ProctoSol, after inserting your own enema and taking stool softeners...all while foolishly wanting to hide it from my husband so I can pretend I'm still a sexy beast. He doesn't know why I do this to myself.

Man alive, I feel like I can accomplish anything after that fiasco! I'm happy to report...I have achieved dominion over the Heme! I haven't had to touch my butt in weeks now!! :-bd

Carol! You and your butt! =)) I can't even!
  • I've heard you can use cabbage leaves, raw potatoes, and banana peel for pain relief too. One of my coworkers said she would scrape the inside of a banana peel and mix it with Vaseline to put on hers when she was pregnant. She said it actually worked better than witch hazel or tucks pads!
  • I feel your pain - literally! DH tried initiating sex the other night and I had to tell him that my ass hurt so bad I could hardly walk or bend over so there was no way he was getting any action! Thankfully he was understanding and told me that I need to tell him when these things are happening so he knows to steer clear..lol Mine usually come from being constipated and stick around for 3-4 days afterwards. The only thing I've ever used for them are tucks pads but I've heard witch hazel works well, too.

  • Thanks ladies!  Some one told me to try apple cider vinegar in a sits bath which did help for a few hours.  About to do it again before I take my dog for a walk so I am not hobbling quite as much.  @barrelocarol indeed! I'm glad I posted because that reply was hilarious!
For whatever reason, witch hazel doesn't work on me - it seems to irritate and make it worse but I may try cotton balls soaked in apple cider vinegar in my butt hole!

Keep the tips coming!  Going to try everything I can! I'm having twins so may only have a few more weeks where I can actually walk around before the belly gets too big and don't want these pain in the butt hemorrhoids to take away my last weeks of movement and freedom!

I had the same thing, just about 5 weeks after I had my DS. The best thing that worked for me was witch hazel. I would put it on a handful of toilet paper or cotton ball, soak the hemorrhoids and then put essential oils in coconut oil on it afterward. The oils I used were, lavender, geranium, clary sage, peppermint and sandalwood. It helped SO much, but the witch hazel is what helped the most because it helps shrink the hemorrhoids. Take good care of yourself after having the baby too because if you already have them before, most likely you will have them after. Drink a lot of water and eat a lot of vegetables it helps, also fiber rich foods. I hope this helps.

  • Mine are not painful or itchy at all, I just don't like that they're there. Even wearing a thong with them doesn't bother me. I just want them gone but I'm too embarrassed to buy any products from my job but refuse to pay the extra money somewhere else.
  • Soak in a warm tub every few nights. I had them bad after my first pregnancy. I had to have surgery to have them removed. Worst thing ever!!!!!!!!!!!! Worse than child birth. They say they come back to but I haven't gotten them to bad this prego. The creams don't work at all. Good luck lady!
  • I had some issues with these as well, so not fun! I asked my midwives and they said that arnica gel was safe to use, it's the only thing that helped! It's a homeopathic, googling whether it's safe will freak you out because you can't take arnica pills while pregnant, but the gel is fine to apply topically. I'd usually apply it 2-3 times a day, helps promote healing! Good luck, ladies!
  • Witch hazel works wonders. I get them any time the hubs and I have sex since I got pregnant. It's the biggest bummer.
  • Thanks again for the tips.  The apple cider vinegar worked well to take away the pain (both in the bath and on a cotton ball).  But they haven't shrunk.  Witch hazel seems to irritate.  Woke up this am and they're bleeding pretty badly - haven't even pooped.  Just woke up to pee and blood in the toilet (I've checked deffo from the hemorrhoids half not the baby shoot!). So now don't want to apply anything.    One blessing is they're not as painful as they were before - maybe the bleeding reduced the pressure.  UGH!   Anyone else had a fair amount of bleeding?  Called doc yesterday and she said would try me on a prescriptions creme but that was before bleeding. Fingers crossed!

Have my baby shower today!  Want to enjoy it and not think about my bum hole!

    The baby shoot! =))

I'd love to hear how the baby shower goes! Have a blast!
  • I am now totally freaked out about getting these. I have had issues with going. I upped my water and started eating prunes and things have been better. I really hope that I don't have to deal them. I'm so sorry that some of you are dealing with them and I hope they feel better soon.
