Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

if you need a positive distraction...

Hi ladies, just wanted to share what's helped me a bit the last two days.

I mc'd 10 days ago and it's been really rough. I'm a teacher and we're out for the summer - it was definitely nice that I didn't have to go straight into work when everything happened, but it's also been hard because I'm just..... home. It almost feels like after a few days of being home, it would have helped to go to work and feel "normal" and at least get my mind a tiny bit off of what happened. Instead, I've slept, and Netflixed, and walked dogs (thankfully they get me out of the house!!). Mostly I don't really know what to do with myself.

Went to my local bookstore the other day to browse and got this adult coloring book: https://www.amazon.com/Enchanted-Forest-Inky-Quest-Coloring/dp/1780674880. It's been AMAZING, seriously. I have some pretty colored pencils and I've been sitting and coloring. It's mindless in the best possible way - it doesn't really require too much thought or effort, but does require just enough focus that I can't simultaneously think about other things. It's really helped me clear my thoughts a bit. Today I felt almost a little like myself. Anyway, I highly recommend it if you need something to do to keep your mind off of things and also feel a little creative :)

Yes! Being home doing nothing is the worst. I have been home alone everyday and I just cry when I'm alone. Coloring is fun! I always try to convince my daughter to color because I like it

  • I'm sorry for your loss. If you like to read I have heard that Girl on the train is a good book. I have been wanting to read it, but haven't gone to get it yet.

  • Thanks for the book recommendation! I actually requested that one at the library, never picked it up, and then totally forgot I intended to read it - will def have to re-request it!

  • I've been having the same problem as you, except I'm still in limbo, waiting for my body to recognize that I need to miscarry and I have my husband's 4 year old daughter to take care of.
but I've been crocheting a lot more recently. I'm definitely going to pick up that coloring book as well.
I don't know what grade you teach, but maybe pinterest could help you come up with ideas for things to do with your students next year.
I've been looking up activities to help my step daughter with spelling and math for kindergarten next year.

    All the best!
  • I have started crocheting again too! Also, this is another good colouring book if you're looking for a sexier pick-me-up! ;)

  • I started doing cross stitch again.  It is mindless and relaxing :-) I actually have a friend who posted an adult coloring book online and it looked like a ton of fun.  I'll have to get me one :-)  Thank you for sharing.

  • Sorry for your loss and that you're stuck in limbo @themattawedding - I hope you're able to also find some time/things to do for you in the midst of caregiving. I've been staying away from pinterest lately because I get SO easily caught up in it, but maybe that's not such a bad thing now :)

@candicek15 - hahahaha that book looks AWESOME, I'm totally going to have to get that :)

Damn it, Ryan Gosling. Jan. 15 2014

Got this for my girlfriend for Christmas.

Pros: Coloring book is really well done and quite amusing. Lots of activities and she seems to enjoy it because it's relaxing for her to color in hunks after a long day.

Cons: Coloring book made it even more abundantly clear that if my girlfriend ever meets Ryan Gosling, I'm toast.
