Still not sleeping thru the night.

My 16 wk old has never slept thru the night, and I can't help but be jealous of those who do. She wakes up every 3 hours to eat. She is usually pretty quick about it and doesn't stay up long or cry much. We have tried so many different things to make her sleep and none work. Anyway I guess I am looking for "misery loves company" posts here bc of all my friends I feel like I'm the only one who still had to wake up all the time. Or if you have advice i would take that too. I'm just so sleep deprived and am praying for that magical night!

Re: Still not sleeping thru the night.

  • My LO (16 weeks) doesn't sleep through the night either. His sleeping/nursing schedule has been consistent since bringing him home though. I just figure it'll happen one day...maybe not today or tomorrow but one day lol

  • Here's to hoping for us both! Everyone keeps telling me it should be happening already and it makes me even more upset. I just read that duchess Kate's 5 wk old is already sleeping thru the night. Not fair lol!

  • I've got three kids my oldest slept through the night at one month old ! My second didn't sleep through the night tell about 16 months which is when we stopped nursing and my LO is 15 weeks right now and doesn't sleep through the night yet , as someone said it'll happen when it does , this time is what coffe in the morning is for
  • 16 weeks and up every 3 hours...you are definitely not alone!!!
  • Aw what a cutie! My girl is big too. Hopefully they are stocking up now but will calm down later lol.
  • Try putting one of your shirts in the bed with you and also maybe start giving them cereal when I started giving my twins cereal they started sleeping all night now they go to bed around nine and don't wake up till five

There should be no loose items in a crib with baby. A tightly fitted sheet, baby and pacifier are all that should be in there to best avoid SIDS risk factors. Also introducing cereal should be discussed with ones pediatrician. There's emerging evidence that cereals really add nothing particularly nutritious and can/should be avoided completely.

It varies really when a baby will sleep through the night. A lot of them can by 6 months but it could take longer. Our LO usually gets up 2-3 times still, so not as much as yours but I definitely hear you on being exhausted. Sounds like you're doing a great job taking care of your LO. That night will come eventually!

My LO (17 weeks) was sleeping from 8:00pm until 3:00am for almost a month starting at about 3 months of age...NOW, as of this past week, he decided to start waking every 2 hours again, and is up for feeding and nothing else. HE is EBF, and I am not planning on introducing any solids, including baby cereal at all until 6 months...maybe even 9 months honestly, just because their stomach's are not fully developed until this age and it's not good for them. In fact new evidence has shown that cereals may fill the belly but they get no nutritional value from it, which, to put it bluntly, means you are essentially starving them. I got 4 weeks of bliss and now it's back to the grind...every baby is different, I think bags under our eyes are a mark of our awesomeness! Hang in there! You know what's best for your baby!

Here's how I see it: I don't sleep through the night, why should my baby. The difference is that they don't know how to put themselves back to sleep. I eventually just gave up trying to stay awake for her and let her sleep in my bed (no pillows or blankets and with a toddler rail). She still wakes up, but at least I get a little more sleep (most nights)
  • My baby girl used to sleep for like 5-6 hours during the first 2 months. Now she only sleeps 2-4 hours straight, wakes up for feelings, and goes right back to sleep. She's keeps in my bed, so that makes it so much easier for me now that I'm back to work.

Sometimes she wakes up 3 or 4 times at night. She doesn't cry much, shejust wants to eat. I just try to remind myself to enjoy these moments. Even if you are tired and a little sleep deprived. It won't last forever. I enjoy every moment.
  • Duchess Kate's baby. Hahahahaha! I'm sure they have a night staff to keep baby sleeping. I-)
  • But my 16 week old also doesn't sleep through the night. He wakes up every 1-3 hours. I'd be scared if he slept through the night all of a sudden. Similar to some of the posts above, he's quick to go back to sleep though.
  • I have a big boy who also wakes up to feed all night. Funny story: my ped said to me "you don't have to wake him to feed him, he's got some reserves" I almost cried and laughed at the same time because she thought I was waking him up.
  • My little guy is 18 weeks and still doesn't sleep through the night. He's up every 2-2.5 hrs nursing. My sister in laws both have 9 month olds and neither of their kids sleep through the night either. I have started giving the baby cereal mixed with baby food before bed and that seems to be helping stretch the first wake up to 2.5-3 but then after that it's back to the 2 hrs. All babies are different. Our time will come lol until then coffee. They're only this little for so long so I'm trying to enjoy it while it last.
