Pregnant after 35

Help on labs and progesterone supplements

So I'm 4w2d today had first labs done yesterday. Did not do this with previous pregnancies b/c I didn't have an issues, but given recent miscarriage, the doctor ordered my beta And progesterone. The beta was 351 and progesterone 14.1 which they said was on the lower side of normal or "what they like to see". So I'm supposed to go draw labs again Tomorrow to see if the beta doubles and what the progesterone does. If its still low I'm supposed to start supplements. So my question is has this happened to anyone else and what Was the outcome? Thanks in advance! Also I'm all keyed up because of the miscarriage and I have no symptoms other than fatigue. I keep telling my crazy self that most people wouldn't even know they were pregnant this Early and I didn't really have any symptoms with my first til 8 weeks and the second was 6 so...but I'm still crazy.

Re: Help on labs and progesterone supplements

  • I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to extend my sincere hope that everything will be just fine. I'm sure it's hard not to worry, so I won't bother telling you not to!
  • Thank you for the support though : )

  • I am not a specialist, but your numbers look good to me. My beta was a bit higher on that day, but not a significant difference. That progesterone could be higher, but it's not bad. I'd still request those supplements just in case - although I heard that it's recommended to start taking them 2-3 days after ovulation. But they won't hurt for sure!
As for symptoms, I'd say it's definitely too early for them, so I wouldn't worry. You'll suffer from them soon enough!
But yes - those numbers you'll receive after 48 hours are what really counts: hope the betas will double or more!
    Best of luck!!

  • I had 3 miscarriages prior to this pregnancy in the last 4 years. As soon as I had a positive on my blood test the doctor put me on progesterone suppositories. I am now 26 weeks 4days pregnant. I only did the progesterone until 12 weeks and so far so good. From what I understand, it can't hurt. I have a feeling that is why I am able to carry this little guy! Good luck I hope it goes well for you.

  • As long as your hcg doubles, I believe that If your progesterone is low the supplements will help. Before I actually got pregnant, my doctor thought that I had ovulated so he wanted to put me on progesterone just in case. I knew nothing about it, but since I had a trisomy 13 loss I was concerned about the progesterone prolonging another unviable pregnancy. What makes me think that it works is because he told me that it could do that, but that he'd rather take that risk than risk me losing a healthy pregnancy. After my first draw, they also told me not to Google my numbers and, of course, I did. Mine seemed low, too, but the hcg doubled and I'm 25 weeks tomorrow. I know it's hard, but trust what they tell you and try not to worry until they do. Good luck!
  • Hi ladies. I'm brand new to this board, coming over from June to visit and introduce myself. I am an AMA mom age 40 due in 2 weeks. I read you post and would like to share my success with progesterone supplements.

I had two previous MCs the year prior to this pregnancy (after 3 successful pregnancies in my early 20s.) I had tests ran and they said I had low progesterone and put me on the supplements. I started taking them on day 15 or 16 of my cycle through week 12 of my pregnancy. SUCCESS! Our little girl is due to arrive on the 28th.

I personally don't think it will hurt to start taking them now if there is any concern about your numbers (I can't remember what mine where and what is considered normal). But definitely check with your doctor and as previously mentioned ^^ trust what they tell you and do your best not to worry.

I pray for all the best for you and your little one!
