Repeat C-section *TERRIFIED

Anyone else having a repeat c section? My Dr/hospital does not allow VBAC. I recently found out from my mom that during my previous c/s they had trouble stopping my bleeding in which I started freaking out (also from being so numb I couldn't feel myself breathing) so they drugged me to basically knock me out. Which explains why I don't remember much after I saw her, just woke up in recovery. I'm hoping to have a better experience this time. Anyone else here terrified? You'd think knowing what to expect this time would ease my fears, but I think its worse!

Re: Repeat C-section *TERRIFIED

  • Was your first one emergency or did you know you were going to have it?? My first one was not planned and I had about 10 min to prepare after 44 hours of laboring. It was awful. My blood pressure dropped, tunnel vision, and I hated not being able to feel my legs. I had planned an all natural birth and did it for 2 days but my body just wouldn't cooperate with labor. This time I'm having a scheduled c section and totally agree with you. It is worse...I'm terrified and my anxiety over it has been ridiculous. My doctor does vbacs and I really wanted to do one (that was my plan up until about 28 weeks) but this baby is coming less than 18 months after my first c section and the risks of uterine rupture are higher. So my husband and I decided the risks weren't worth it but I know there are risks with c sections too, and my placenta is anterior this time which I have read makes c sections even more risky!!!! Ahh why can't birthing a child just be easy :) lol I hope your terrors calm down soon and you aren't so anxious when the day arrives. I'll say extra prayers for you!!!!

  • Yep second c section. My first wasn't an emergency, but I only had a day to think about it. I wasn't all that scared.. This time it's bothered me so bad!!! I also had the tunnel vision and bp dropped. But he gave me oxygen and something to calm me down and everything went great from there.. Where I live, the high risk doctors are students!!! Seriously! It's a teaching hospital. I'm high risk, and having a second c section... So give me a not so experienced doctor.. Although.. I really do like her, she's been doing it for years.. And this isn't her first go round. But when they put that label on her it's pretty freaking scary! I don't understand how this place works.. But I really do like her! I'm still scared.. I told her how I hemoragged with my first (vaginal birth) and even tho my c section went great, (after the drop.. Which she said isn't uncommon) I was worried about bleeding. She just smiled and said everything will be okay. And I had low platlets in the beginning, and she said that they will be prepared just in case anything happens. But not to worry.... So I'm tying not to.

Second c/s here. The twins arrival was an emergency c/s - they had put the epidural in the night before, in the hopes of just making me comfortable while stopping labor in the meantime. It wasn't a great epidural, I was uncomfortable and awake ALL night, and by the time they came in to check in the AM, I was completely dilated, and they could see DD1s feet. I was in the OR within minutes. Because the epidural wasn't great, I could feel them when they were prepping the tummy, no time to up the epidural, so they knocked me out. Since my girls were whisked away to the NICU, being born at 29+3, I didn't miss a whole lot. This time, I hope to be fully awake, to have our LO able to stay with us, etc. Not getting my hopes up too high, knowing we'll be delivery at 36+1 due to risk of uterine rupture should I go into labor on my own (classical/vertical c/s with the twins, so not allowed to go beyond 36-37 weeks due to those additional risks). But, the outcome will CERTAINLY be better than delivering basically 7 weeks earlier than that, like I did with the twins! In fairness, I do have anxiety about being awake for the entire procedure this time, but I got a little taste of that during the cerclage surgery. Definitely less invasive than a c/s, but a little flavor of what that will be like (and it didn't freak me out, and DH couldn't be in the room for it -- but he will be this time!)
