UPDATE!! As promised, I'm checking back in with you moms Here is my birth announcement and story!
Introducing...
Caspian James EDD 10/20/15 born 10/15/15 at 1:32pm 6 lbs, 6 oz, 19.29" in
On 10/15 I started feeling regular contractions around 4am, not crazy intense yet but still painful and ~15 mins apart. They got closer to 12 mins apart by 6am. I wasn't scheduled for my c-section (due to breech presentation) until 10/19, so I called the doctor's office at 8:30am and they sent me to L&D to get checked out. I hadn't had cervical checks done at my OB so they hooked me up to the monitor and did a couple of checks an hour or so apart. After confirming I was in early labor and dilating (went from 2cm to 3cm within the hour), the doctor on-call decided that we'd be having the baby that day!! There was no point in waiting, especially since contractions were getting more uncomfortable and I was dilating. I got prepped for surgery, and by 1pm was in the OR. This was my first surgery ever, and while it was a bit scary feeling 85% of my body all numb, the sensations and uncomfortable pressure, it all went smoothly. They spent a bit of time on pulling the baby out since he was apparently so wedged in. No wonder he couldn't flip! He really had no room in my heart-shaped uterus inside my tiny body. Thankfully he was perfectly healthy. He also latched on and took to breastfeeding right away. He's a breastfeeding champ.
Everything happened so fast but it was worth it in the end. We're so in love with our little Caspian!
------
I'm currently 3 weeks post-partum and loving every moment of this new journey. The newborn phase is challenging, but the endless cycles of sleep-deprived feedings and diaper changes are so worth it when I look at this little face. As far as my c-section recovery, the first week or so was really tough even with pain meds. It's hard to get around and take care of a newborn when your core is wiped out AND you're recovering from major abdominal surgery. Thankfully my husband has been so helpful and is already such a great dad to Caspian. After I got through the first week, I felt a lot closer to normal and have been feeling great ever since. Incision has healed nicely and I'm looking forward to being cleared for exercise in a few weeks. For now, I'm taking it easy and enjoying every minute of bonding with our little one.
Wishing you all the best as you head into the final stretch!!
Congrats, he's so precious! Nice to hear he took to breastfeeding right away after a c-section - I have a heart shaped uterus too so that's a fear of mine. Congrats again and thanks for sharing!
