1st Trimester

Sharp pains and pulling

I am anywhere between 6-7 weeks and I have had some sharp pains and pulling going on near my pubic bone, lower abdomen. It is NOT unbearable, but it is uncomfortable. It is worst than a menstrual cramp. I have read a lot of places that it is my body adjusting and uterus stretching. However, this is my first pregnancy and I'm a little afraid something is wrong. Is this normal to experience this early on? Anyone else experiencing this?

Re: Sharp pains and pulling

  • My OB asked me to call if I had any pains that were similar to or worse than a menstrual cramp. It could just be stretching or RLP, but she wanted to be able to evaluate me and make that call.

  • I had some stretching and poking/twinging at around 4/5 weeks, but they weren't like period pains, they were more like dull aches around my pelvis and in a horizontal line under my belly button. My midwife said it sounded like ligament pain, but I think if it's painful then you should call your Dr to put your mind at rest.
  • I agree that it sounds like round ligament pain but you may want to call and ask. This usually feels like stretching in your uterus but if it is really painful it can't hurt to ask. I have gotten this with each pregnancy but it isn't painful, more annoying.

  • I have the same thing im 7 weeks today and have been having pains dull ach stretching like pains for about a week and half called the dr and they had me do an u/s to rule out eptopic and thank goodness its not. But doc said it is ligaments stretching. If your truly worried call doc just to make sure. Just relax when you can if its hard to do stuff.
  • My dr told
Me me thAt any cramping is normal unless you are bleeding or in a lot of pain
  • I cramped exactly like that from 4-6 weeks. It was centred on the right side and the ultrasound person told me the pain and discomfort was due to the fact I had ovulated from the right side. You are most likely fine, especially if you're not having any bleeding. I didn't bleed at all. I ended up going to A&E which was a bit of an ordeal but they got me booked in for an early scan which revealed everything to be fine. I'm now 9 weeks 4 days and those pains have long since stopped. If I were you I would go and get checked because it will give you peace of mind, which is good for you and your baby :) good luck and try not to worry.
  • Totally normal. i gat sharp pains too and all if what you described. saw bsby was ok with heartbeat at 7 wks.... pains went away :) hope this helps!
